i was in the same position about a year ago and i chose to go with mac, i still have my windows laptop with me because there are some things ( very useful things ) that are not compatible with mac. Go with windows !

Get a Mac if you want, just know that you're paying for $3000 for a $700 computer. The other $2300 is stupidity tax.

There are always some people that say Macs are better but there is a reason they account for just a few percent of the overall PC world. If you are looking to use SEO / IM related software I cannot think of a single one that is exclusive to Mac that is worth using and there are few that are cross platform for both Mac and Windows. You could dual boot but if you are going to spend all of your time working in Windows why bother with a Mac at all.

You could spend 700 on super nice workstation PC

you could get an i5 CPU.SSD and 12-16 gigs of ram you would be all set.

If you want to spend the extra money to do some gaming drop 300 on a graphics card.

A thousand dollar custom PC is WAY better than a shit Imac

I mean if you dont care about the cost, then apple computers can be great. If you only do simple things like photo editing, video editing, browsing etc. But as you said you want it for IM and then I must say I dont think that will work out that great. Their computers are fancy, compact, great design. But for that cost, and such limiting support for software I would never buy anything like that. If I didnt care about money at all I could think about buying an Imac for my children since they are pretty easy to understand for beginners.

What kind of computer you should get is very hard to say because there are so many diffrent configurations, you have to tell more about what you want to use it for If you wont play games or do alot of photo editing there isnt any reason to get a high end graphics card which is usually the most expensive part in a computer nowadays.

If you really care about price and want the best thing for you bucks like me, I really suggest to buy many things used. And to build your own computer I right now have a top of the line computer which would cost about $2,000 new today. And I have spent maybe $1,000 for the parts. Maybe a little bit more.

If you choose to buy a windows PC, and to buy it not used I suggest you wait some weeks untill Intel Skylake processors are released this summer Also you HAVE to buy a SSD as hard drive, or buy a computer with an SSD as a hard drive. They are really cheap nowadays and trust me you wont regret it. The computer feels 10-50 times faster, even with low end CPU/GPU/RAM.

No doubt the Macs are among the topQ computer systems, but see if a Mac can install all your software. Anyway, since the Chinese hardware began getting into the PCs and laptops, even inside the top brands, I doubt that there is any long-term advantage you may get out of shelling out your hard-earned 3k Dollars. I have lost 2 harddisks and all the important data in quick succession in the last few months because they were made-In-C and very lowQ though the brand-names were world-famous, imo.

So consider this viewpoint (Made in C) also when you're spending that kind of money on hardware.

Macs are dam fine for IM.... You can run everything and every tool on virtual machine just fine. I must admit my mac is slow as fuck if I run too much and for a $4500 machine I expected mine to be better but anyway you can still run all seo and IM tools PCs do. Gaming is SHIIIT though so If you're into gaming then forget about it. I have a separate PC for gaming.

Macs are a dam rip off I do prefer mine for general use over PC but still a blatant rip off.

Go for it. I bought the 5K about 2 month ago and its the best computer I've ever had.

Apple computers are indeed good however the only thing that I think you might not like is that you may not run some softwares which you could on your windows as it's a different operating system. Maybe there is a program which can help you run those .exe for windows. I prefer windows and will stay with this.

Apple has a nasty tendency of abandoning their hardware platform every four years. Really, how many people run a 32-bit Apple box and still have it supported by Apple? Microsoft after 13 years finally stopped supporting XP. Less software and fewer upgrade options are a reality with Macs.

Plus everything about Apple is more expensive so unless you want to look cool in coffee shop stick with Windows.

The funniest part is that Apple claims to be for developers like video editors, yet they don't even make a mobile workstation with a dedicated GPU. The GTX 980M just crushes the iris pro intergated graphics the macbook pro offers.

The fact that I know people that said to me "I would love to have a mac, just for the looks" means that I shouldn't buy one.
