Okay maybe this is not the right place to post this but I know that there's lot's of computer savvy's here so...

Anyways I was playing around with my computers screen resolution(win 7) and I accidentally did something that made the computer send the video data to a vga monitor that does not exist so now I am left with a black screen with back-light.

Now my question is how can I reset my screen resolution settings without logging in(from startup boot or maybe safe mode).

Please help it is really urgent!

You want to do it without going into safe mode?

Direct method:

reboot in safe mode

Uninstall graphic drivers from control panel

Boot in normal mode

Install graphic drivers

Which graphic drivers should I uninstall

Do you have additional graphic card installed?

if not then its intel graphic drivers

when you start your PC, does it show the black/green (w/e the colour is you have) - startup screen?

usually it says Hold/press F1 to go into BIOS or something or BOOT MANAGER.

Go into BOOT MANAGER (hold F4, F1, DEL, or w/e the button) --> choose Windows safe mode WITH internet/connection (so you can google stuff)

try to reset/undo your stuff there

turn off your pc take out the G card and put you cable back into the original connection in the back of your PC..
then turn it on

then turn it off again and put your g card back in and it will reset inself

they is another way to do it and maybe easier but I don't know it

I'm not sure but do this.

Press windows key + P

If nothing happens keep on pressing Windows Key + (2 times P) and press enter.

Is this a laptop? You sure you didn't just hit the Fn Key + F2 (typically) to send video to the video port? If so just hit the key again (whatever it is) that toggles video from laptop screen to vga port.

if you have a 2nd laptop/ipad with a camera/webcam, you can live-show me your broken PC, so I can follow (like teamviewer) - using Skype - PM me if you want me to help u out

A lot of notebooks turn off/on the external screen with one of the F buttons. Which notebook do you have?

Happy to hear u got this fixed. The issue seems strange as changing desktop resolution type settings has to be confirmed on the new monitor and if its not it will revert!!

Thanks. Well guess what this should tell you something, I am stupid. I tried things and confirmed them not knowing I will end up with these issues. This should be reported to windows. windows should automatically detect the connected monitors.
