Is there actually nothing I can do about it? Just gotta watch it burn?

Ever since I overtook a certain person on the SERPs for position 1 who has been there for a long time I am experiencing insane brute force attacks on the site, he's unable to actually get in because my usernames aren't default and the passwords are VERY strong, as well as locking out after 2 attempts and moving the login page... But the attempts are there. Aside from that, he is relentlessly attacking my website with Negative SEO, Google is warning me about unnatural link building even though I haven't been building links, with high volumes of incoming spam, and he's certainly going to keep attacking and attacking with bad links until my entire 100 page handwritten-content site is burnt to the ground so his broken-English 10-page EMD one can reclaim top position.

Game over career... :(

Negative SEO should be illegal, it's no different than walking into a family owned business and setting it on fire, smashing up all the stock. Won't be able to pay the bills now...

hmm too bad.try to contact google about it, or try to redirect you site to a brand new domain.if you use wordpress, thats easy.

Contact Matt Cutts about it, tell the police about the attacks on the web-site, trace back his attacks and make him pay a fine.

If I redirect I will just get the penalty back in a couple of weeks... It's far from a rank and bank site, I built it for long term success and have invested a lot of money. Just lol... Spend ages and hundreds of dollars building a great site then somebody pays $5 and laughs about it as you're put out on the streets again.

I would contact google with a cleverly written letter explaining the problem, i would love to know what response they came back with.

You never know, they may have a list of sites they will not penalize ;)

No point redirecting or moving as the same will happen if your rankings get back to top.

Well I agree that contacting Google and tell them what's going on (supply evidence if you can) is the best idea. I am sure they will do something about it.

My stance would be if you can't have the #1 spot, nor can he. If the website is ruined 301 it to his domain. Or, begin attacking him the same way.

Yeah, unfortunately this is the environment that Google has created. SEOs attacking SEOs. This is why I preach diversifying not only your properties, but also the types of marketing that you implement.

Sorry to hear bro.

Google wins...paid search all the way.

Sure, you can game the system for a bit...then crash....you can do everything by the book then have some dickbag ruin it with some shitty links.

This is my feelings lately....and I couldn't be happier...PPC or bust...

Cant you change some setting to block all incoming backlinks?

Thank you for the advice and also for the kind offers some of you have made to me in PM and this thread. I will definitely keep them in mind.

I am going to leave it until it happens again, he may give up after this assault as I noticed from a reverse IP search that he has been updating newer domains of his more recently and may decide to just forget this project in favor of the others. I'm thinking if I fight back it will be obvious what's happening and he will put even more effort into bringing me down.

I really would like to know this too.

man he wont stop till u get burned keep in mind he was #1 and making a living then u come and took his spot so he cant feed his family what do u expect ? war war war good luck man best thing to do is contact google that s all anything else wont help

Something similar happened to me, I had a great site with over 100,000 words of handwritten content. Some a-hole recently started spamming it until I got a manual penalty from google. I went from over 1,000 visits a day to barely 10 visits.

Why don't you guys just use the Google Disavow tool. There are many tools on the web to dump your link portfolio and then you can use excel to filter through the links and put together a Disavow file. This will limit the impact of their attacks.

This is googles game all along. They don't make money from generic ranking unless you
are high traffic 100% whitehat adsense.
