Commenting on forums

I was thinking if this could be a good strategy.
Sometimes we would like to place a nice post in a forum containing a link to a certain site. But we know that the forum is either moderated or we know that we wouldn't get past the admin's check against spamming.
In this case we could try placing a legitimate post without any links, receive all the admin's attention, maybe some answers from other members and than after some days, we could edit the message adding the link and modifying content.
On certain platforms (I'm quite sure phpBB) your edited post will not be flagged as recent and it might be a good way to get your link through.

you could also try posting it on your profile. many forums allow that.

Yes refjaf55, that's a good option. I've often seen profile pages in serps but when you try and open the page, it requires you to login. Does this mean that spiders/bots can index the profile pages, while we "humans" need to login?
In this case your suggestion is even more valuable.

Today profile pages are not enough. It would be better if you do some posting with it.

I have a legit account on a forum (PR4) with over 900 posts. I no longer post there, so instead use the account for backlinks. While it took ages to make that many posts (properly), they a pretty powerful tool in my arsenal
