Coming up with an idea for a site...

How do people come up with great ideas for a site? I don't want anybody to spoon feed me here, but is it best to focus on what you love/know best, and create an authority site from it? I seem to have a problem with my creativity at the moment...

I always pick a topic/idea on something that is either relevant in my life or something that interests me.

Then I do KW research like this:

Outsource the writing and start adding content and backlinks.

I find it best to look at trends. Knowing what the trends are is key to knowing where the money is flowing. You can choose a niche that's related to your interests, or you can choose a niche that money is flowing to, or do both if you can.

One example is insurance. As stability of economy, and life in general decreases, more and more money is flowing into insurance as people look to gain stability through protection.

search around amazon, google trends & ebay and see what's selling well - lurk around forums and find out what's bothering people that they cant find a solution to, sign up with the big affiliate sites and go through their merchants, if something clicks with you then write it down. watch the tv commercials, ask friends, read mags - anything that you find interesting jot it down (keep notebook handy all the time, inspiration strikes at the strangest times lol) keep looking til you have a decent list then start doing the keyword research. Just keep at it - when you have found your niche you will just know, great little tingle of excitement add me on skype or pm if you like - i love bouncing ideas around when i'm supposed to be building backlinks LOL
