.com, .net, .org, .gov .. etc... ranking related

alrite so i'm doing some searches for domains for keywords in my niche. some of the good .coms are taken, i'm wondering with good seo and bookmarking what have you ... can a .net outrank the .com?

if not the .net .. whats the better ones to get besides a .com?

technically, it's not meant to make a difference to google. avoid .info, .com is best, .co.uk if you're uk. My next choice would be .org, then .net.

But really, i dont think it makes a difference.
 
I honestly heard all the avoid .info hype going around, but couldn't pass up the .99c .info domains on go daddy... I bought around 60 for blogs and hit them directly with xrumer.

Some are indexed and RANKING HIGHLY for the targeted keywords. Unfortunately I don't know how long they will last as all the content is gibberish.

Time will tell. I was scared of .info before, but now it's ok in my book.
 
I might upgrade to .com from my .info domain, might boost the traffic.
 
The only reason .com's are the best is because of familiarity. People are more used to them. They don't help any with SEO though
 
I would say .com's do help your SEO. I have heard for years that there is not supposed to be a difference, but with my experiance it seems .com's are favored. I would then say .org's, then .net's. I have had bad luck with .info's and very bad luck with everything else. One thing that has been a nightmare was my experiance with .ws
It seemed worth while at the time because of the great names, but the search engines hate these. So .com's, .org's, .net's and that is it if you are going SEO.

Yeah same. A lot of this info is baseless or people being ignorant to the competition just outranking you. I have never had an issue ranking a .info and the only negative from it is when people don't trust the domain through perception. If you are going for organic traffic then it really isn't an issue.
 
how about a .org...its not really a huge deal but im gunna be usin ppc anyway

.EDU and .gov etc get the Google love because they are usually old domains that have gained a lot of trust. It apparently isn't to do with the extension, so the Google PR people tell us...
 
Actually, the most important factor is PAST HISTORY.

On a completely unregistered name - where there have been no previous uses under any TLD - then there is no difference between them.

However, as cheapo .info's are so beloved of cheapo spammers, most have been polluted by previous usage and so your taking up of a previously used .info, for example, could well give you problems.

Just like condoms - fresh is best and never reuse.
