Is having a "---------".com name much better than having a "---------".net name for your authority site?

I found a website name that I LOVE but the .com is for sale for $5,800 and the .net is $11 bucks. lol!

Does this affect ranking as far as SEO is concerned as well? Also, I could use the name I love and add HQ to the end of it (head-quarters) and get the .com. I.E. """"----------HQ.com.""" Good?

Thanks guys and gals.

.com is the king

you should be fine with .net too

.com over net normally. But when ,com is $5800, I'd go with the .net SEO wise, it's not going to make much of a difference.

.com is the best, been using it for all my domains and i always rank faster with it

As far as SEO goes .net is the same as .com.

But as far as trust goes, people seem to trust .com more so they think the .net version si a fake or something...it's a matter of human trust, not technically better/worse as far as SEO goes, but the human signals tend to benefit the .com

In general.. I use to type site name and then click ctrl+enter..

So by default it goes to .com.. Hence if your website is having .net and any other is having the same name with .com then your traffic will go there..

problogger is also .net and its one of the big blog and ranking for thousands of keywords, so its doesn't matter whether you get .com , .net ,.org

Most people go for .com simply out of preference
If there is a large cost for it and the .net is only $11, go for the .net

.com is better, but if you cant spend the money...the .net is good option

Doesn't Reallt Matter if you don't get .com .net is the best option.

If the .com is for sale (I'm assuming through auction or just being held for extortionate price) it hasn't been built on for quite some time and most likely won't in the near future hence going for the .net is great idea.

.com is the best, been using it for all my domains and i always rank faster with it

so your're implying that having a .com gives you some sort of advantage over the other tlds in the serps?

There is no difference for google if you are using com, net or org. Even if there is some difference, there are a ton of other factors that come first. Go with the .net domain and make sure to metion it everywhere with the .net extension and use the .net in your logo as well so the people get used to it and memorize your brand as *yourband*.net.

.com is much better and authority extension, but there is huge difference between 5800$ & 11$, so I suggest you to go with .net and spend reamining $$$ on unique content and quality backlinking.

I would take second option rather than use .net
Go for ----HQ.com
