Cold Calling, E-mail, or Direct Mail?

Cold calling sucks? Emails get deleted? This is what I'd do.......

Send them informational emails first. Track opens, send more educational material and then follow up with those that open your emails. just call them and ask them if they have questions or if they would like a more in-depth analysis/quote whatever.

Those who didn't open you can begin your conversation with a "Did you get a chance to look over the info I sent you?"

Hope that helps.

Yes I have. I do offline marketing for a living and that's one of the lead gen methods I personally use.

In your earlier posts, you said you send "informational emails first". What exactly do you mean by informational? Like informational in the sense that all you do is explain whats wrong with their site and whatnot, or in the sense that you explain what SEO is for example?

Use all of them. If you cold call or use direct mail, use emails in conjunction (mentioning a call, or a call mentioning an email, etc). It's not what method you're using that's important.. what's way more important is what you're saying. Personally I think this is the main reason why people don't get responses. Their message just sucks.

What are you offering? Why are you the best choice out of your competitors? Look into coming up with a USP, it'll really help.

When you contact them, add value, create interest and position yourself as a trusted peer. Don't talk like you're better than them and don't talk like you're below them. If you're trying to cold call someone but can't reach them, don't give up after the first try. Or the second. Or the third. There was a study (forgot what) that on the 6th try there's a 93% chance you'll make contact and a 500% better chance of converting them over 11-12 days.

This is some real quality advice. Thank you Alinea, I'll try to absorb of all this. And you're right, I really should come up with a USP (User Selling Proposition for those who didn't know). And I still have the numbers of some calling prospects who I couldn't reach. I'll be sure to try and reach them again, and again, and again if necessary. Once again, thank you!

User Selling Proposition? I know it as Unique Selling Point, something that is unique about your business as opposed to anyone elses.
