I highly doubt a DDos attack was the problem of this issue!
Added to that, all their servers were having issues and not just one region or server. So for me DDos is out of question, unless some important internal servers got hit.
Also, don't guess or create random facts, just read up on their status page:

But you are more then welcome to lead the way and ditch Cloudflare. They became the biggest "provider" for a reason.
I personally don't like them because of their shady history, see crimeflare.org and such, but they get the job done and that is what counts for me!

There are many alternatives, however none of them offer the services Cloudflare does.That's what I mean man. People either need to ditch Cloudflare or there needs to be many more competitors and people still need to ditch Cloudflare.
