What? You must be one of the teenagers at BHW because that didn't make any sense to me at all. Are your two 'selves' fighting for control of your parents keyboard? What are you talking about?

Here's my thought for whatever its worth.

I voted no to closing the website off and making it entirely paid.

I personally have no problem with paying $10 or $20 month. This community is awesome and would be worth it.

But as others have pointed out there is a risk. I'm sure a lot of the eventual donors and heavy contributors on this site would have never joined if they had to pay up front. Someone said that by being a new member, they learn the tricks of the trade, and are eventually able to contribute. The cycle of noobness in all things.

What about a tiered system?

I'm a paid member on a forum for domian names. They have a silver level for all unpaid visitors, a gold for like $40 or 50, plat for like $100 and an exclusive for $400.

In their case its a lifetime membership, but that could still help to add privacy in certain areas. In their forum there is still a trickle down effect of information so new members do get something, but are also encouraged to upgrade for the better information, networking with people who take things more seriously, get the latest tools, etc.

Free but close off registration. We already have plenty of users.

Do what Demonoid does, make it invite only and if you invite someone stupid you both get banned.

I just wanted to say that I am glad it is free because that is how I found out some of the amazing info on here, but I would TOTALLY pay for it now that I know the power of these forums.

I just want to say hi and that I hope to learn a lot and contribute a lot to everyone as well. I hope to become a Donor soon!

Quick question... Where should I ask about my monetary input I am getting from IM? I would like to know if it is high or low for my first year doing this... Thanks!

I think this should be a only for people who are making donations or purchase a membership. after all if you are serious about what you are doing, then this is a small fee to pay.

I have seen about 5 replies on this thread alone that tells us we need to close the doors and even throw some people out.

And is it me or is there more newbs coming in and wrecking this board even more. I say if something dont happen soon, we wont be any better than DP, We all say they were a pretty good board a few years ago, Dont let us go down like that. To many newcomers are getting away with BS crap.

I can't believe the spread is now 13% between the two opinions. Apparently, a few dollars a month is more than some people think about this site. I would like to see the percentages broken down more. Newbies vs Jr vs Exec. My assumption is the percentage of newbies vs jr and exec is really lopsided.
Your assumption is probably wrong and stupid.

You CAN see the breakdown here: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/forum-suggestions-feedback/poll-182-a.html

Rough estimate before the colors make my eyes bleed:

YES, close
1 mod
5 Exec
60ish Jr.

NO, stay free
2 Admin
1 Mod
11 Exec
50 Jr.

Maybe you should stop justthinking and start justdoing. I don't believe thinking is your niche.

Haha, good one ape, just as I started counting the members. Yes actually the most senior members voted for bhw to stay open.

I might as well get my 2 cents in. As you can see I am sort of a noob, by post count anyway. That is for good reason and this is not it- no offense tigerthebigcat-

Most of the problems, gripes, hatred, etc... of some people here in BHW
especially those with many post in their belts is that the new comers or
noobs don't contribute, ask stupid questions, etc... as if they were not
noobs once in their lives. The noobs are well, noobs. What do you
expect? If you want the noobs to contribute, they should be given
access to stuff in BHW and learn so that someday they will contribute.

What a load of bullsh%t!!! This is no excuse for the numerous idiotic and repetitive questions asked lately. Take some freakin initiative and figure shit out on your own! You know the very first thing I learned here...learn a scripting language, so i'm learning php. I'm trying to write my own scripts and soon i'll be good enough to help out others, but until then I study my ass off! Here's a thought site:blackhatworld.com "cookie stuffing" did you ever think of running that through google? 730 results on my screen. Somehow I doubt it!

I personally don't want to be spoonfed stuff, I want to learn it for myself. Everyone here has 24 hours in a day and if this is what you want to do then YOU MAKE THE TIME TO LEARN! Why sleep when I could be writing my own scraper or url harvester. When I learn enough to throw up a thread about how to "Make $250 a day in thirty minutes" I will, but until then I know to keep my mouth shut and hit the books! Just because I can't do it today doesn't give me an excuse to bring down this great forum by asking stupid questions. That's what people around here expect!

If I have to pay $10, $20 or $50 I'll be the guy on the side of the road collecting bottles and cans if I have to make that money because what I've learned here is Priceless!

I have also voted no, but my main concern is the quality of the forum, with more and more members everything becomes chaotic, so it might be better to pay a small annual fee provided that the quality of the postings, and the software available improves. in any case it's up to everyone's votes...

Thanks for asking user's opinions, nice touch .

I want this place closed to private.

Last thing we need is affiliate managers peaking their fucking eyes in here. Fucking bastards.

If any AM is reading this post, FUCK YOU.

Why do you hate them so much to say "fuck you"?

Just interested...

Keep it open.

I totally agree with Essential Clix

I've seen some very informative and helpful posts come from 1-post newbs. Yes, the majority of the new people that come here are complete newbs or leeches. However, locking up the forum to keep them out is kind of like throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Besides, BHW already has a paid-only section -- BlackHatUniversity.com

I propose we just increase the Jr. VIP membership requirements and move a few subforums there. Along with disabling the search engines from indexing certain forum sections, that should keep the ideas and methods being shared here alive and kicking much longer. It's a delicate balance for sure, but in the end it will all be worth it.

To me his idea is the way to go!

if the price is right.. i don't mind.... hahaa.. to think about it now..

Whew!

10 pages and growing. I'm not going to even try to count the number of unique
replies, because that's actually quite pointless. A couple of posts rated a Thanks
button push, a few others got a "hover" over the button. ;)

New blood is what makes things "interesting" and entertaining. That's not to say
that the "veterans" are lacking in interesting and entertaining by any means. To
close off the influx of new ideas and techniques would probably not be a good
thing.

What do I think? Leave BHW open. Add some more moderators. Experiment a bit
with the "exam" idea for new sign-ups. Somebody mentioned proving the ability
to use the search function as a qualifier.

I really enjoy my time here, when I can stop by. I like to help where I can.

Ultimately, whatever the decision is, I really hope it is one that is good for the
"community".

P.S. One last thing. Thanks to all who do contribute, and to those who make
BHW a great place to be a part of. You know who you are...

I think it should be a combination of free and paid. You need open access areas to get people involved and interested and then hopefully "upsell" them on a "membership". There is alot of great info here.

For those that say they couldnt do a monthly fee, are you kidding me? He said a small fee like $9. If you took 1% of what you can learn here you will make that in no time.

Maybe make the juicy bits paid only? Make a subscription for part of the forum, but keep the other part public.
