Cloaking Dangerous?

Hey fellas. I assume you're talking about cloaked links? I just got into the whole internet marketing thing and am actually starting to make money with it. All my sites right now have cloaked links using GoTryThis.
I just happened to catch something on WF about people losing commissions having to do with cloaked links and cookies and IE7 or something so I started to consider trying redirects. Then I see this thread.
I'm not following the dangerous part though. Does google not like cloaked links? Can using cloaked links sandbox your sites or something?

cloaking is dangerous depending on what you do and how you do it. If your a newbie, don't worry about it yet.

Everyone remember one thing: CLOAKING IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW!!!
The ONLY thing you are doing wrong is violating Google TOS. And if you get caught.... the delist you. The key to cloaking is doing on many domains!
DO NOT cloak your main or monsy site!!! That would be stupid.
Google will not penalize any for getting "inbound" cloaked links!!! Plain and simple!
If they did, I would build 100's of cloaked sites and have them all point to my competition.

i find cloaking fun not so much dangerous, isnt half the of blackhat game to try to stay ahead of the search engines and game them as best we can? in that case cloaking fits the bill there perfectly, sure its more advanced if you trying to do it yourself rather than using some expensive script that some old blackhat freak has written and is constantly updating but thats why its so much of a fun toy to me... just my 2c

people seem to be mixing up link cloaking and SE cloaking
link cloaking isn't dangerous, it's just a different link!!
SE cloaking, delivering a different page to search engines than to humans can get a site banned, but if you're not too blatant can produce good results. Just like geo location, give the right data to the right viewers is often a good idea.

The difference is that with cloaking you feed the SE spiders pages that humans will never see.
So if you have 500 keywords, you make 500 pages.
All these pages will be indexed by the SE's and will be ranked for that keyword (500 times) and a human will never see that page but just gets redirected to whatever URL you want it to go.
Tinyurl is just redirecting one URL, the only thing you "cloak" with it is normally your affiliate URL.
