How do you start building links for your clients? Do you outsource to someone? Should I start building PBNs or focus on other links first?

Having some issues with my local competitors having massive half-decent links and I'm still trying to build better quality but it takes a lot longer. Should I outsource to someone to start building some links?


I feel like link building is where I lack the most SEO wise, looking for some insight on how you build links or where you purchase them from.

On-page, keyword/niche/competition research, content optimization is the very 1st thing I do.
I mostly go with foundation & pbn links.
For PBN whether to use my own network/outsource or build a dedicated network for client depends on clients budget.

If you know & understand everything you can do it yourself.
Else outsourcing to an expert is better option.
 
Do from my own.. First try to give the best links from existing database, in the meantime outreach some new sites.

Are you actually doing client SEO or was this a general type of question?
 
Start with something more simple and cheaper
That would upgrade your skills

Got you, I feel like I do a good job with the on-page and content side of things but that obviously isn't always enough. Do you think it's worth building a PBN for a certain city then adding my clients in that city to it?

I will look to hire out someone for the time being to learn more myself.

PBN is always worth to build if built properly.
These are amongst the strongest backlinks type that work.

I would start by doing a thorough competitive analysis for the client site. Of course, we perform an on-page audit & backlink audit for the client's website to determine where they lack for their target keywords. Then devise the most effective strategy to outrank their competitors.

It completely depends on the resources you have. You can do this yourself if you already have a team to handle it for you. If you prefer, you can hire someone to do it for you

There is no better business if you can outsource most of the job and still be in profits.

My suggestion is to hire someone to make foundational links and you in the meantime do an outreach for real value links (guest post, niche edit links).

For example, this could be your plan for a client with a new website:

1. Crowdo links (hire someone who can do it well for a good price)
2. HARO links (hire someone for doing this)
3. Do an outreach for guest posts and niche edit links, and after a few months you will have a database of links which can be used for your clients project.

Within time, you'll be ordering more and more links, so you will get much better prices and you will be able to handle more clients when at least half of your job will be outsourced.
 
Check on the competitors to see how strong their backlink profile is. Fix the On-Page issues if present. Build quality backlinks like Guest posts, niche edits or niche PBNs. Diversifying your backlink profile is important.

For the comments like these, we're doing well in the map pack, bringing in daily leads - the customer is happy. I just want to push it a little more with our organic rankings for the city.
