Hello bhw
So I have searched 2 expired domain names (now available in google domains as well) that I wanna use as my money website but I have few doubts

1. Is there any demerits of using expired/dropped domain

2. How to check if there penalized

3. One of the domain had a Chinese gambling blog, should I use it?

Thank you for helping me

Check archive for and chinese blog spam.. if its gambling and your niche isnt... I wouldnt go for it especially if it was in Japanese.

Use ahrefs to determine the quality of link profile.

I have checked way back and in 2015 it was a chinese/Japanese blog with many gambling sites promotion.

I also found another domain name that was first bought in 2005 dropped in 2007 , then bought in 2008 to 2009
Should I buy this?
Is there any demerits of using an expired domain in seo or building an authority site?

If its clean domain.. and niche was the same and similar website, then you should be good to go.

I can check in ahrefs for you if you want but do PM me the domain name so others wont steal it.

1) check anchors, something viagra, cialis or anything foreign should raise alarms, but if you see something foreign translate in google and see if it makes sense. If you see anchors that are unrelated to the previous website, that is an alarm. Also, if you see a related/unrelated anchor that has a very high percentage then it is a sign that the original owner was over optimizing anchors.

2) check hosting history, if the domain was dropped multiple times, pay attention to hosting providers, were they foreign? do you see an .jp or Chinese hosting?

3) Always check archive, from the day the domain was registered for the first time, if it was dropped and re-registered, pay special attention to those dates and see if the website changed, was it a PBN? did someone already re-purpose it? etc... If archive is missing for a year or so, then fuck it, don't use that domain.

4) Check backlinks, don't rely on metrics, look for contextual do-follow links, or links from authoritative sites in the niche or editorial links.

5) I like to get my hands on indexed domains. search site:domain.com in google and see if it is indexed, if it is, look for content, does it make sense? if someone re-purposed it then you would see irrelevant or something out of the ordinary. Alternatively, look at the 'top pages by links' in ahrefs and if you see something out of the ordinary, just move on.

There's probably more stuff you can do, but this is what I do to thoroughly vet a domain. You can be more flexible with PBN's, if you're using it as your money site, then you need to make sure that everything lines up perfectly.

Good luck!

Since it alre shows it was a Japense blog I would not recommend buying it, unless you can verify it was completely clean. Further you can read @Nargil posts to get better idea about expired domains

Thank you sir for a brief instructions
I have checked it on google using site: parameters but no results. I think it might be because they're dropped years ago and back to Google domains

I will surely check nargil's post

Nice try..

To the op, Ahrefs has a free backlink checker and if that's not ok, you can buy the 7day trial for 7bucks. Don't send you domain to anyone!!

There's also a trick to get a Moz.com pro account for 30 days with fake cc details. The guide is on the forum just use the search bar. I repeat, don't send you domain to anyone if you haven't registered it.

And for how to know if an expired domain is potentially penalised or not, check guides from @Nargil, he's the best expired domain guy on BHW and he has written tons of guides on how to vet expired domains correctly.
