While we're waiting for a reply, I just wanted to say that I got nearly 13% on my most recent article was featured on GD. But I only got 14 clicks 
))
So, not sure how to optimize.
By contrast, the one where I got nearly 20k views, had a CTR of around 6%.

CTR is not just the only thing determining clicks and impressions. There are others signals too

Sounds like big G Discovery is your enemy to get significant traffic and multiple seo keyphrase rankings with their Discovery ?
14 clicks only a few days, then you must write and submit a new long guide article to Discovery, with that model you will not make a goos number of cold traffic sales beither you get a good traffic number tgo your website / or getting leads.
I mean on organic traffic you will get a lot with pillar content and a lot of multiple keyphras erankings.

Hi, Marco.
I see your point, but until now I was only getting by on traditional search engine results. So, I'm seeing GD as something of a bonus for the moment.
For example, the article with the 14 clicks has received a bit more daily by hovering around the 1st page of Google.
Or do you mean that by being on GD you are somehow sabotaging your chances of ranking on Google?

Yes maybe when you are in GD, chances are high you will not get good seo organic rankings? Yep it's my theory because I not believe all what Bing and Google is telling us. Google giving you this GD feature, you are loosing organoic seo rankling within same time th ebig sites who dominating google seo worldwide pushing out mor eand more long pillar expert content (form journalists) and dominating their niches and more coming subniches too ....
How long your articles stays good in GD and get clicks every day? 1 month or a few days...?

So, a strange thing happened yesterday. The post I mentioned had only had 14 clicks go pushed by GD. ) It now has about 6K in the last couple of days. Pretty thrilled.
I have only changed a few things since I last wrote here. I have only a couple of possible explanations:
- I changed the title to a more clickbaity one and the featured image. I did that a few times before it seemed to stick
- Or, someone here worked some magic in which case, thank you)

The one thing I could gather from everything is that as BradyX said, it seems that once you update a post that already had impressions in Discovery, you might give it another chance to be featured.

The large resolution, but the 1200px wide requirement refers to the featured image, which is shown in the feed itself.

Google discover has always been insanely random for me unfortunately, All websites get accepted for me but only one gets views the others get fuck all. The one that gets views is fully AI written while the others are higher quality.
Then it suddenly stops getting views, then gets views again... It's so weird

Yes.Ok so if my images in the post are smaller than 1200 is that correct? The important thing is that the featured image is the big one.
This option then I just select LARGE
It works more similarly to YouTube than to Google search.

The same happnes to me. It's all random(i mean the time when you ar up or down). You can write the world best artcile optimized to google discover......if you are in that period when when you don't get views, in the other side when your are UP and your site getting views on Discover.....you can write anything
