I have an interesting case study that I will update regularly.
I have keyword.schooname.edu.
keyword is very competitive. Not top tier, loans, insurance, etc, but after that.
Wikis, edus, .gov sites, gov sites that aren't .gov, few authority sites, etc.
Keyword gets 150k+ exacts per month.

I'm still not 100% sure what I'm going to do with this domain, because with strict .edu guidelines, I can't abuse it too much.

I'm currently #24 (sescout) and #20 (US Google), it dropped a few spots over the last week. It's not too hard to reach top 20 with this keyword, but to get to the top 15 is hard. Top 10 very hard, top 5 extremely hard, top 3 nearly impossible.

Goal for this site is to move it up as much as possible, get it out there and noticed, in hopes of people seeing it and start referencing and linking to it organically. Long term this could be a potential authority site that can make it to the top using organic + black hat push.

Knowing this niche inside out, and knowing the top 15 sites very very well, I'd be extremely happy if I could track top 10 with this service. Single digits would be great.

is it a blog hosted on the school's website?
I mean, do you own that .edu domain?

Don't own the .edu domain, I'd assume it's almost impossible to actually own one.
I have a subdomian. Not a typical school blog.

What are you doing on the subdomain? Ads? Affiliate links? How much content is there?

BTW, subbed!

I'm not doing anything to monetize it at this time, I'm keeping it completely clean, probably for a long long time.
Currently five pages, but getting more done soon.

Interesting. I've been curious about their service so I'm definitely interested to see how your results are. Sounds like it's a pretty juicy keyword too.

Whats your backlinking strategy to try to make it rank?

Two threads based on a case study of the same service.
Subscribed.

P.S. Just out of curiosity, did you get a free copy of the service as well?

I have no idea if this is under way. No communication. Great start.

yeah the whole review package thread was so scumbaggish...good luck dudes, i doubt that his service is worth a damn.

It appears work has begun.
Site is currently #32 as per SEscout and #36 via manual search.
I will watch more closely now that work as started.

Up to #25 now. 15 spots is nice, but I hope it goes a lot more yet.

Still at #25 today. Hope work isn't done on it.

Why would people organically link to it? If it's number 11 receiving very few visits.. Why would it gain more natural links than number 1?

I think the OP's aim is to (ideally) get it ranking higher than #11.

Organic links could happen for a number of reasons, for example, compelling content, helpful advice or even a free tool.
