Case Study: Kewyords Stuck on 2nd /3rd Page in Google

Yup, that's why constant disclaimer in the thread that its MY Experience :D


1. I only used single word keywords, for example if my keyword id "best blue widget", I will use "best", "blue"& widget" . I never used any generic words or naked url

2. I bough the service and they are still alive. I hope they dont drop as i Paid for them :D

3. I am on #5 now.

Which anchors did you use on the niche PBN, I assume on the blog comments you just did URL/Brand?

single word anchors. For example, if your keyword is "best flying blue widget", I used "best" , "flying" , "blue" , "widget"

best + kw = 2400 per month EXACT US
(there are other related kws too with 2000+ searches)

KW Competition = medium (including results from reviewlab, contentegg, techradar, heavy.com and IGN)
Also there are 4 sites on Google 1st page which have specialized review-type pages for this product/niche

KW Difficulty as per KwFinder
Main kw KWfinder = 37/100
best +main kw KWfinder = 42/100

My Site Details:
Amazon affiliate site
total words on site = around 10,000

Site Age = 7 months (started on April 2017) on fresh domain

Issue: Stuck on 3rd page of Google
My site was stuck on 3rd page for best +kw combination and on 4th page for main kw since last 2 months.


Solution - What Worked for ME
Unfortunately I too was unable to find a single solution however I tried a couple of different things and eventually it worked out for me. Following are the things that I actually did.


Content Update:

  • I added almost 2500 words in the form of 4 new articles
  • I also added around 400 words on homepage of site. These 400 words are not seo optimized instead they are about relevant product issues like durability or safety.
  • I update 3 old articles by adding 200 to 300 words. These articles were also on 2nd page in google for their relevant terms.

social signals DON'T play any role in rankings. Its just a myth

As for anchors, as long as you dont use exact keyword until you are on page 2, everything will be fine. Once you are on page 2 in Google, you have to use a few exact match anchors.

This obviously depends on the market and competition, in competitive markets you aren't getting to page 2 without exacts. They may be through 301s or on hidden PBNs you can't see, but it's not possible to rank in competitive markets (with a root domain) without exacts.
 
And how you boosted your ranking to page 2 and 3 ? what type of links you used ?

It's hard to find homepages with lots of links to rank in competitive niches. Its more likely a very strong domain ranking internal page without any backlinks.

I am talking bout my own site here so I am pretty sure when i said that I rarely used "exact match" anchors.
As for the "depends on the market and competition" thing, ofcourse you are right. Everything depends on the competition and stuff but how you perceive competition vs how other perceive it may differ in some scenarios :) For example take the keyword "schizophrenia symptoms". As per my experience, its almost impossible to rank a domain or niche site on this keyword. However for someone else, its nothing but a couple dozen PBN links :)

free links like web 2.0. profile, comments etc
As per my experience in niche sites, usually On Page seo and content itself is strong enough to rank the website within 100 in a couple of months without any links.

not necessary. for instance, the niche sites homepage is usually the one ranking on keywords.

Just wondered if the site was still ranking ? I hear a lot of stories on here that pbn links purchased from the marketplace disappear after a few months?

yup you heard that right

my site went to second page again after 4 weeks of this and its again stuck there now :D
 
It takes time for rankings to settle. Content age as well as age of domain and links also play a role.
