Case Study: Kewyords Stuck on 2nd /3rd Page in Google

I have been asking several people in this forum regarding solutions for the website stuck on 2nd or 3rd page in google. Aside from general suggestions, there is only one thread that specifically mentioned this issue however its too old. So ultimately I decided to take the risk (since I have no choice) and do a couple of experiments on my amazon website that was stuck on 3rd page in Google US for almost 2 months.

NOTE: This is my personnel SEO experience and it might be different from your SEO experience. Since several factors are involved in ranking therefore this case study is not and should not be taken as a recommendation of any service mentioned here.

Now some stats

Niche = computers/tech

main kw = 12100 per month EXACT US
best + kw = 2400 per month EXACT US
(there are other related kws too with 2000+ searches)

KW Competition = medium (including results from reviewlab, contentegg, techradar, heavy.com and IGN)
Also there are 4 sites on Google 1st page which have specialized review-type pages for this product/niche

KW Difficulty as per KwFinder
Main kw KWfinder = 37/100
best +main kw KWfinder = 42/100

My Site Details:
Amazon affiliate site
total words on site = around 10,000

Site Age = 7 months (started on April 2017) on fresh domain

Issue: Stuck on 3rd page of Google
My site was stuck on 3rd page for best +kw combination and on 4th page for main kw since last 2 months.


Solution - What Worked for ME
Unfortunately I too was unable to find a single solution however I tried a couple of different things and eventually it worked out for me. Following are the things that I actually did.


Content Update:

  • I added almost 2500 words in the form of 4 new articles
  • I also added around 400 words on homepage of site. These 400 words are not seo optimized instead they are about relevant product issues like durability or safety.
  • I update 3 old articles by adding 200 to 300 words. These articles were also on 2nd page in google for their relevant terms.

Currently my site is finally on 12 for main kw and on 5 for best + kw combination in Google US

Also your website is pretty much new so your results are not surprising.

i have stopped caring about this stuff since long as couple of my sites were hit by over-optimization penalty (site will stuck above 50) . just be natural when writing content.
 
Thanks for the share OP. I have two sites which have KWs stuck on google page 2 for over a year now. TBH I have given up on them, but I think it's worth a try to try out PBN links. I am going to test them when I get time from my journey. :P

What was your word density when you got penalized?
 
Also did you make all the PBN links in between 4 weeks?? Or with in a week??
 
I might have to take this approach too. I start a fresh website around the same time stuck on the 2nd and 3rd page but my keyword is local.
 
Your site was 5 months old and it's now 7 months old. I assume a lot of the content is also that age. This is another significant variable on top of the links & content changes.

It could be but aging of site itself never helped in ranking. The site was on 3rd page for 2 months. In my opinion, this is enough time to rule out the site aging thing. We should also consider that the site ranking was increasing naturally until 3rd page.

I have another site started at the same time with almost same link profile however its still on 6th page. So it is the aging factor the other site should have moved to 2nd page as well by now.

@seoz87 so 100 pbns in total? I gotta couple of questions.

1 what's the keyword anchoring you are using for all of them?

2 what's the drop rate? Any pbns that has been removed, gone, taken down NOW?

3 what is your current position as of NOW as well?

I asked this because you have blasted like 150 links in a span of under a month. That seems scary even with a 7 month old website.
