    Introduction

For some people $1500 a month might not be such a big deal but for most an additional $1500 to their monthly salary would be the difference between living decent and being able to do whatever you want. In my case I will be moving at the end of 2011 and to be able to this I need those extra cash.

This thread will be a work in progress. I created my site (blog) in july 2010 and has since then published about 50 posts resulting in a few hundred unique vistiors a day. Based on what I can read on other forums this is where a lot of people get stuck. They get a few initial visitors (100 - 500) but never reaches the first page and therefore their motivation runs out before they can cash in some serious money. I've done it once before but lost the domain due to trademark complaints. This time I will do everything in public aiming to both motivate and teach some of you what can be done using only white hat techniques.

    What I've done so far

    1) Registrerad a domain ($12)
    2) Created a simple Wordpress blog
    3) Published about 50 short posts
    4) Added my site in some free link directories
    5) Hired a guy to build nische sites and link them to my blog ($360)
    6) Manually wrote a lot of genuin blog comments

Truth to be told it's simple straightforward link bulding techniques.

    My current work schedule

To make sure I really do work and don't waste my time I have created a daily step for step work schedule.

    1) Write a high quality post on my blog (90 min)
    2) Add post on social bookmarking sites (5 min)
    3) Create a forum thread and discreetly mention my site (15 min)
    4) Comment on new blog posts mentioning my keywords (30 min)

    5) Write and submit article linking to one of my niche sites (30 min)
    6) Write and submit article linking to one of my niche sites (30 min)
    7) Write a new post on one of my niche sites (30 min)

    8) Create a new niche site linking to my blog (60 min)

    9) Choose between writing a guest post, writing articles or asking for link exchanges

As you can see I've divided them into four groups based on priority. Most important is to create and market new high quality content. Next step is to create content and build backlinks for my niche sites aiming to turn them into passive income combined with linkpower. If I'm up for it I continue to create a new niche site, complete other tasks and work with something in group 9. Is there something else I should add to my list?

    My current rank

    Keyword #1: 11
    Keyword #2: 40
    Keyword #3: -

For the first time ever I'm trying to succeed in a billion-dollar industry and a bit optimistic I went straight for the main keyword. Something I don't recommend - aim for long tail in the beginning instead and you will get faster results. Anyway, after several weeks without any good ranking I ended up at #11 this week. Hopefully it's just a matter of time I until I'm on the first page.

    Money balance

    Bought a domain: $12
    Outsourced SEO: $360
    =
    $372

    Affiliate: $410
    AdSense: $35
    =
    $445

    Result: + $73

    Summary

This is a thread about my challenge to make $1500 a month from a blog. I will write high quality posts and market it by guest blogging, forum posts and genuin blog comments. To get first place on search engines I use quality niche sites and guest posts on related blogs.

Feel free to comment if you have any questions, suggestions or like this thread.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm actually done with creating hundreds of small niche sites since there's just so much work with them. This will be my personal blog and therefore not passive income.

Cool! Keep up the good work.

Really, my goal is to simply make about $3k per month. BUT If I can make that, I'm going to swiftly aim for $30k a month next.

I'm way far from what you guys are doing now. But I will do this methond in the near future will be doing it more than sex so I think I will prosper. I don't have any experience about web making so I'm trying some noob free method as far as i can do it in the web to make some money. One think I learned on IM is that if you want to earn more you need to pay more for the resources. It's just like the other offline business around. You need to have some big capital and some great thoughts and hard work to make it to the top. I will be there someday. Fail or succeed I will do this someday.

You should add the cost of the server or hosting. Anyway, if you are not even in the first page, I could not see how you get hundres of visitors.

Thanks. The idea behind making money online with a blog is really easy. Find a niche, create a blog, build backlinks, outrank your competition and make money on the visitors. If just more people would do something instead of spending their time here reading about it. Hopefully this thread will show everyone that you can make it with simple methods.

At the moment i use Commision Junction and AdSense.

This is actually not true. There are a lot of successful offline businesses succeeding thanks to word of mouth and guerrilla marketing. You can do the same thing by befriending other bloggers (word of mouth) and try to create high quality content that other will link back to (viral).

    I'm glad to hear that.

Actually I got 2 year of free hosting a while back by asking on Twitter which company I should refer my friends to. They saw a chance to get several new customers so they gave me a free trial. Unfortunately I can't disclose the company here at BHW though since I want some privacy.

My currents visitors are mostly coming from my comments on other blogs and long tail keywords for which I've not optimized.

My first update since I created this journal and I got to say it inspired me to work more than ever.

    Current ranking

    Keyword #1: 8 (11)
    Keyword #2: 37 (40)
    Keyword #3: 31 (-)
    Keyword #4: 3 (-)

Really excited to be on the first page. Thanks to Webmaster Tools I will be able to see roughly how many people who are searching for my main keyword. Will take a few weeks before I get the information though.

    What I've done this week

    - Paid a guy to build new niche sites and link them to my blog ($60)
    - Paid a guy to submit my blog for 100 (1 approved) CSS directories ($20)
    - Added my blog to 98 RSS directories with RSS Submit 3.0
    - Commented on hundreds of ******** and nofollow blogs
    - Created a Twitter account which automatically tweet about my latest post
    - Submitted Twitter feed to 98 RSS directories using RSS Submit 3.0
    - Created 6 new niche sites
    - Wrote and submitted 8 articles
    - Mentioned on 2 forum
    - Published 2 post and added to social bookmarking sites

Worked a few hours this weekend on finding d0f0llow blogs and ended up with about 100+ PR4-7 blogs. Will use them to publish genuin blog comments linking to my niche sites. Hopefully most of them will be found within 2-3 weeks resulting in a major gain for all of my sites. As I said earlier, the idea with my niche sites is to break even and link to my money site. All of them is within the same nisch so all links will be highly relevant for the visitors.

A major fail at the CSS directories. I guess I need to update my design a bit.

    Money balance

    Before this week: + $73
    Current balance: - $7

I'm getting paid once a month so income will be in a post for itself.

    What about next week?

I'm really excited about my new blog comments (PR4-7) and while I'm waiting for the result I will continue to build new niche sites and write articles. Besides that my focus this week will be to add new content, aiming at new keywords.

Great job, you're headed in the right direction. Always love to see case studies like this.

Am moving from niche sites to authority sites, and you're pretty much on track with what you're doing.

Subscribing and looking forward to updates.

When you are speaking about 'creating niche sites', are these web 2.0 properties or self hosted? If self hosted, are they on the same hosting/IP than your money site and do your setup a new domain for each?

    Regards,
    Steve

It's all about hard work until you reach the #1 spot on G00gle. Then you can slack off and concentrate on writing great content. I don't know how much time I've spent but this is my hobby. Some guys collects stamps and some like sewing. I love to find new methods to make money and has done since I was a kid.

Thanks cecle. Feel free to rep me if you find it useful. :)

I'm glad to hear. Will update a summary every week and my income once a month. There between I will try and answer all of your questions since you give me even more motivation to keep going.

Those are sites with new domains and spread out on about 4-5 different hosting companies. I collect all ideas in a suggestion list and when a sale comes along I buy 20-50 at once and publish them as quick as possible. After a year I renew all domains with am income higher than the expenses. If a site doesn't make the cut I'll save the content on my computer and then reuse it at a article directory a few months later.
