Cant go wrong with a German car. Very reliable.
Well if i were you take a car with decent gas milage and reliability. Also check for maintenance costs, some sport/luxury cars are really cheap but they will cost your ass if you don't know what their weak points are. Also take a mechanic with you who can spot defaults and such. Sometimes you can request maintenence history via the vin number at someone who works at the dealership or on that car's brand forum.

That's a good looking car, it's both luxurious and sporty. It has got some good looks, and has also good gas milage. Does not have many problems known exept for the swirl flaps (google it, they can be removed). Will run for miles if you look after it.

I wouldn't get a cool car for Uni, still early unless you're making tons and tons of cash. When you get an office as the guys above said, and the rest, then you should go for a better car.

And that's also called 'fronting' and if Leith is not living at the same postcode as the registered keeper then it would be very easy to prove and also fraud.
What you can do is get little run around, then limit your milage to under 5k a year and don't include commuting. Even if you get a part time job (bar/high risk) don't admit it to insurance company as your price will go through the roof.
Also, look into telematics insurance, that means you get a little black box attached to your car, it tracks speed, braking and where you go and I've seen people save 60% on the second year of insurance. Basically, drive safe and you get money back from your insurance, drive like a dick then you get nothing back.
Some companies are saying that if you drive safe, not only will you get some money back towards the end of the year but you will have get 2-4 no claims bonus so you will save for the next year.
I've worked in insurance for quite some time (not know) so hit me up for a tips when you get a car, I know a few cheap and good insurance companies

Got Audi A4. Decent car, reasonable insurance and road tax is fine too. You can't go wrong with German car. More expensive but you won't regret it. for 5K you can get 2005/2006 Audi.

Well, I have a 2003 Corsa which served me well and now up to 102000. Nice cheap car, insurance cheap too as it's only a 1.0 - won't get you much street cred though! Mine was fairly new when I got it, and I cared for it, unfortunately I get the feeling most of this era of Corsa have been trashed (engines going ka-boom due to timing chain fault isn't uncommon if they aren't serviced as needed!!)
Might be worth looking into though..my sister has the newer Corsa (an 07) - more on insurance due to engine size but a good little car.
p.s. Seems with little Vauxhalls/Fords etc. it luck of the draw weather you get a good one or not, but the good news is generally the stuff isn't too expensive when they do go wrong!!
