Can you rank without backlinks?

Absolutely!

I say that with full conviction because I'm doing that right now.

For most of my websites, I never buy links because I've been burned so many times before.

How do you rank without backlinks?

It all boils down to building the right site.

How do you build the right site?

You need the right keywords.

These are keywords that are not hypercompetitive but still pull a decent amount of searches every single month.

These keywords have to also be tightly connected to the niche or sub-niche you're targeting.

They also have to be clear about what kind of content you can build for them.

Finally, they also have to clearly telegraph the intent of the people using these keywords.

By targeting the right keywords, you are able to build the right sites, which brings us to the next topic of discussion.

How do you know you completed the right site?

My rule of thumb is if you are building a new site, you should shoot for 150–250 pieces of content.

No debates!

A lot of people stop with 20 pieces of content and then move on.

They go back after a few months and realize that they're not getting any traffic, and they cry about it.

Well, you really can't complain if you haven't completed the job.

As far as I'm concerned, if you are building a website, it has to have at least 150 posts.

Now you may be thinking: "Do these all have to be long-form posts?"

Well, you have to pay attention to what your competitors are doing.

If the average word count for the niche you're in is 2000 words, then 2000 words is your floor.

That's where you start.

Ideally, you should pack enough information and value into every single piece of content in your blog that will go beyond 2000 words.

But 2000 words is your minimum threshold.

On the other hand, if you are in a niche where most of your competitors get away with 500 words, then that is your threshold.

In most of the niches, you will not be able to rank because of competition.

Yes possible, I saw many websites are ranked #1 without a single backlink, which proves that if you have powerful content you can rank without any backlink!
