For Meta keywords, how does it work exactly? Does the word order matter?

If I type in "New york cars, trucks", will a search for "New York trucks" return my result?

What about "new york cars, trucks, etc, etc, equipment, items"

Will a search for "New York equipment" return my result as well?

What about "New York not cars"

Will a search for "New York cars" return that result or is the "not" in the way mess with the results?

Every keyword combination you use will bring different result. That includes changing word order and adding/removing words. Check the search volumes and competition for different keyword phrases to see which ones are best for you to focus on.

Are you saying search "New york items" when the meta details are "new york cars, trucks, etc, etc, equipment, items"
will bring results for "New york items"??

It doesn't work and yes word order matters. The idea behind META Keywords tag is to suggest relevancy to an indexing crawler so that they can categorize your content. Only problem is no one trusts what you suggest your relevant keyphrases are. Is it in some way included in the big picture for SEO, yes I guess. Though Google claims it is not one of their metrics for determining rank. Should you include it anyway, probably yes, as there are other search engines that do look at it as a small piece of the SEO pie. If you do include it, if you want to be relevant for the keywords, "New York Trucks" and "New York Cars" then you need to include both longtail variations. Using something like "New York, Cars, Trucks" will not mean the same thing, This is suggesting the site is relevant for threee different unique queries "New York" "Cars" and "Trucks" But again it doesnt really matter because the Keyword Meta tag is basically useless.

No, thats not how it works, Besides META Keyword tag certainly wont rank you for this.... Not without links.... Its all about links

Again no, your META Keyword data is basically irrelevant when it comes to search results, On Page placements of the keyphrase, domain authority, keyword in Domain/URL, Link anchor text and source is what is controlling what you come up for in the rankings.
