Depends on where you are posting them.
If they are on your own site, sure. Everyone does.
If they are on a community site, people would probably call you out on it.
Video testimonials are the best. I got a company to review my products and specified which actors (ages, sex, race) that I wanted to be used in the videos.
PM me if you want the company contacts
Dude, come on. Just offer your product for a few reviews on here or on another forum in which members would like your product/service. You'll get real reviews from people!
Sorry i know its easy to make up testimonials but i've spent so long building my site i don't want something as stupid as someone spotting a testimonial was fake getting me shut down.
I'm gonna put up fake testimonials until i get some user feedback for my book. Then put up real ones.
You could but it is a recipe for failure. Offer review copies here and on other forums or buy them as stated in other responses here on this thread. 30-40 bucks spent on video testimonials will go a long way for converting visitors to sales.....
Or if you don't want to spend any money on testimonials yet you can just go by writing your own testimonials just as you would like them to be and as the writer you can put in just a random first name and city without any photo.
i.e. " I just wanted to let you know that I just tried your ebook/website/serum/software/whatever and it's awesome blah blah blah blah.........the world will never be the same blah blah. Thank you. YOU ROCK !

This kind of testimonials are allover the CB and I don't see anything wrong with them except the fact that they are fake but this is because I'm in this industry.
Or, even better , ask a few friends, girlfriend etc to make a video testimonial for you.
