Can a 38 year old learn AI from scratch and make any bucks ? ( No coding knowledge )

You have to become qualified by an accredited school to become a neurosurgeon by law, which takes years, over ten years of intensive study and practice, so you don't kill people and stuff?
You can become a full stack dev in a year, and don't have to 'prove' anything by law. Not saying you will be the best but you can get good, but the real question is who codes vanilla these days all the time? The way you're making it out makes it seem like that's the case!

It doesn't matter how old you are. Anything is possible. The funny thing is I've seen youtube videos where people teach how to use chatgpt to efficient learn programming. Look it up on youtube.
 
Possible. Keep your options open. Don't limit to just ChatGPT and AI.

There are a few skills that can never be replaced. One such skill is Marketing/sales. Try to use this in IM.

While am not discouraging you to learn coding. Explore non-tech side of IM for starters to make side income.

You can even resell services(drop-service) .It still works and fairly requires almost no investment if you can network.

I have another suggestions considering you work at a public sector banks. You can probably register your family member to become an insurance/loan agent and use your network to close on some sales. It's very good passive income. I know some who works in the government job and his wife is a registered loan agent. Think they make 1000-2000 usd a month passive. But they started 10 years ago. But you can still explore this.

Op : I didn't start coding till my early 40's and although I'm not a guru, I would consider myself a decent full stack development noob, and I get better every week. If you want to be one, nothing will hold you back, it's your interest.

I admit, I'm a dick when it comes to coding.. I'm being harsh, but when you've been doing it since the 90's you can be a bit of a coding-snob :-)

You can definitely learn to be productive in a year and create some good stuff, but I am just being really pedantic because it tickles my funny bone.

nothing to 1 year is a junior dev. If people said they became a good junior dev in a year, then fair play.

But the real numbers are

Up to 1 year - Learning

1 to 3 years - Junior dev

3 to 6 years - dev

6 to 10 years - senior dev

10+ years - team lead/architect


Some will reach dev level in 2 years. Some will reach senior in 5 years.

But to reach full mid level div in 2 years, you have to be writing a ton of code, reading a ton of existing code, and reading books. It's 50-60 hours a week for 2 years solid.

But.. Let me be a grumpy old coder... bah. :-)

You can do it, just stay motivated and set your goals and move on from there, age is not a limit, believe me once you start making money online and a good income you will get more motivation to push forward and don't worry for the age you can learn and move forward.
 
Its never to late, the start is the hardest part. You can do it, good luck :)
 
I am 51 and I learned the basics of Python in 3/6 months, not to become a coder but to write some apps that are useful to me and because it is fun to do... (it didn't hurt that I already had PHP under my belt from way back in the days (pre Wordpress days) when PHP was going to be big, or so I thought :D )

So yeah...
 
With the rise of ChatGPT, there is no need for coding knowledge. If you are brilliant at giving instructions to AI, it will work as your assistant. Within a few years, the coding profession will disappear.

Coding takes years and years to learn. Most have no idea how complex it is and how much there is to learn. This is why most just google how to do everything and copy and paste code. When i learned to code google didnt even exist. You had to work something out yourself but this meant you spent 4-5 years developing real expertise.

You can become a full stack developer by learning and getting a diploma, not by googling. People tend to disparage others by their own personality, but some times there are good people out there that are worth it. Like the guy who lost 40kg in one year, the girl who left an abusive relationship and started fresh new happy life, this guy could stop wasting his days serving coffee and went %100 into .NET developing and master it. He is now working in this field and making more money and happy with his life.

And just a note from myself, as a self learned full stack web developer, everyone can learn to code and everyone can master it IF they work in it and live it. Taking a course or learning with google / youtube guides will make you write shit code, I agree, but if it's your career and you love what you do, you can do wonders. If it has taken you so many years to learn to code like you said, the issue if with you.

Your degree in computer science will just open interviews it will not actually Guarantee a job.


Engineering yes it's very specialised, however to motivate your self ask chatgpt to role play a psychologist or coach.


Example: chatGpt you'll be the CEO of my life, and psychologist I'll give you permission to asses my decisions or areas I can address, anything I say your at liberty to question or make follow ups.


I'm just the employee, or student.
 
There are many tutorials, many information, many videos, blogs, everyone can learn, it's just about time and if you like that stuff, will be super easy for you learn!
 
I am older than you, and last year I start learning coding in AI first start with prompt learning to understand learning machine luangage.
Focus on your gaol and keep going
 
Set yourself an achievable goal that stretches you a little.

Achieve the goal quickly, rinse and repeat decreasing the time to not your goal with each iteration.

This will build your self confidence and after that everything is within your grasp...

... Self confidence based upon ability is your most important asset.

i wrote my first code (for fun) in 80s, professionally in 90s, and since last year i'm out of that game (mobile software development changes too fast for me and it was my last job)
i generally agree with you, but for the last 10 years your timelines (... to ... years) are cut to half
 
Passion is needed to learn something and become expert in that field. Ai is new for everyone , if you have confidence you should just move with your new project fearlessly.
 
Been an amateur coder for 18 years, coding today is more like building Lego, nobody writes anything from scratch anymore - use this library, that library, this API...

Don't rely on ChatGPT for code at all! GPT is NOT replacing coders anytime soon, but it can be a useful tool for coders. Some good uses for GPT in coding are things like:
  • Writing short specific algorithms and RegExps
  • Translating code from one language to another
  • Summarising spaghetti code
  • Optimising algorithms
  • Helping understand principles and explaining how to organise code structure
  • Etc
ChatGPT will replace junior devs in time but that is many years off. It is not capable of writing comprehensive code yet.
