Buying domains with penalties

Hi,

Recently I have been buying really good domains affected by penalties for a ridiculous price. I have to say that I only bought "Pure Spam" penalized domains, checking always the BL profile and ensuring that the penalty comes from content.
In the first two, I created completely new and high quality content, new designs and submitted reconsideration requests at WT. My surprise is that within a week I got both penalties removed by G and the domains instantly indexed.
But I have been noticing the domains are not ranking in first position by its brand name, and they should as they have very strong BL profile. Instead, they appear at 7-9 position. So this issue has been generating me some questions...

- Could the domains still have any kind of penalty, even when they have been re-indexed and approved by G?
- Is this a risky strategy? I mean, will G has an eye on my domains, just because they already been penalized?
- Anyone else is trying this kind of strategies with good results?

Btw, I plan to use this domains in my PBN

Cheers

There are different kinds of penalties. Robotic ones, manual ones, for useless content, for spammy links, for bad outbound links, bla bla bla... So if G removed some of penalties, it doesn't mean there no other ones left.

This is so called - algorithm penalty - worst one, because you won't recive any info on GWT, this penalty in most cases won't be removed (by algorithm) until bad links are removed.

If you try to contact google anyhow about this penalty it will like this --> http://googlesucksalot.tumblr.com/post/95126821189/trying-to-email-google-why-your-website-is-penaltied

Depends how many links you have to remove.
I sold one with 1000+ crap links for $3,000. But I told him there was a penalty on it.
Was a profitable 160,000 exact search EMD.

I am not sure how it all works, but if you are already on page 1, I dont think there could be anything to worry about penalty.

Re-read the message sent to you after the penalty was removed. Sites won't necessarily return to their previous positions after their penalties have been revoked. It will take time.

They might even have a buffering time before they regain their ranking strength so the effect of the penalty more wears off than is removed. Might not be the case, but would explain your situation.

Yes you can be indexed and still penalized, wouldn't touch the domains personally but you could use them to juice your tier 1's

I've been convinced for a while that once a domain is penalized manually, there's a red flag on it and it usually can't be brought back all the way to the top ever again, even though the penalty has been removed.

Thanks mates! I will keep investigating and probably I will try to use this domains as a PBN. I would like to know it's potential (having in mind they are ex-penalized domains) and the only way to know it is playing with them.
If anyone is interested in results just tell me and I will share how is it going.

Just a quick update in case someone is interested in this issue: the ex-penalized domains are slowly climbing in serps, seems they are recovering its strength. So I will be trying how they work in a PBN in a few.

Actually it will take time to get back your previous position. Also there are various kinds of penalty. What are the reasons of your penalty? It is difficult to say you get rid from all kinds of penalty.

any detail instruction how to check before buying?

If such a domain has already given you page 1 rankings, you could always have an additional domain to compete with it to see how they compare.

Just check if domains are indexed (if not don't buy them, unless you assume a quite possible penalty), check web archive for "real" content, and the backlinks profile looking for spammy links. If everything is ok in my experience you can buy without worries.

"Pure spam" one, they were part of a PBN and I think G discovered it. I bought them for a few of bucks, just for playing.

Do you have some extra money so you buy penalized domains ?
