I found a domain name with both .com and .net are available. The names looks good and .com is a premium domain name ($800 bid). Is it worth buying the .net version of the same one which is available for $9 ? Do i get hit by the .com version?

It really depends on the name. If it's a high search volume keyword then it's probably worth it.

It contains a keyword with high search volume(really high) and it looks natural.... But I am worried about the .com version which is now on bid. :(

Don't worry about the .com unless you are planning to brand the .net domain.

Thanks for the help I might be going with that one. And its for bloging. :)

I would get the .net domain if there is low competition for the niche and high search traffic.

Just get the .net, the .com will probably be on auction for a long time if not indefinitely. You probably won't have to worry about someone building on the .com for a very long time.

Definitely go with the cheaper option. It's the kind of investment you should be able to handle. You're also not going to regret the decision, if the whole thing won't take off.

There's not guarantee that you'll be able to sell the domain for a higher price later on (in case if you decide to go with the more expensive one)

I would buy the .net, wait for the .com to be buyed then I'd contact the owner to sell him the .net too

Buy the .net
You can always buy the .com later in the future.

You can go for .net top level domain. You will not hit by .co until you do some black hat activity.

You don't have to worry as long as it not a TM or other known brand.
Cheers
Dan

Hello,

Don't spend $800 for a premium domain. Just go for .net and make it worth.
You can use your saved money for blog set up. Google cares for quality posts and quality links.

There is nothing much in the name.

Thanks
