Hi BHW Friends,

So basically I'm starting a side project and to help get it kick started I've been building a website.

During my keyword research I came across a very very low level competitor that stopped business and using their domain back in 2014. The site has a very strong backlink profile all of which would be amazing if I used a 301 redirect to my site.

I checked the domains expiry date and it's in a few months.

I am new to domain buying, is it worth contacting them now and making an offer to buy the domain (the person who owns it is still active on their personal twitter, or i could do it through GoDaddy) or just waiting til it expires.

I am scared though that if I wait for it to expire, the huge backlink profile might mean it goes back up at a higher price?

Any advice or tips would be amazing.

I'd wait and see if it expires then make an offer

if you really want it, use a service like namejet to scoop it up, but a few months doesn't mean anything, he may get that expiration email and just renew it then, since most places make an effort to get you to renew.

I did research and I don't think they will renew it as the company dissolved in 2014 and the founder has a list of his projects on a personal website. This domain isn't mentioned.

So I will defo check out namejet, thanks
