If you have got the latter, you're safe and it will only mess with your engagement rate but if they're really crappy, that could affect your account tremendously in terms of reach as well.

If this engagement is all over the place and you have followers making erratic actions across a variety of different posts its not helping at all for your natural growth. For you account numbers yes it helps and I have seen many of my clients get great success, but if you are like 90% fake you will get no engagement naturally or have any chance of appearing in your market or niche because its skewed the algorithm too much.
