Outside of what's been already mentioned, you can search through:
- Godaddy's Auction of Domains.
- Purchase Domain Hunter Gatherer (Sold here on the forum) and search for good, expired domains.
- Buy scrapebox, buy the expired domain plugin/addon, and scrape lists of domains.

if someone else already purchased it, then your only option is to hope they dont have the privacy set on the domain, do a whois lookup, and contact them to try to get some sympathy and hope they will sell it back to you, but considering you worked on it for 10 years and the fact that they purchased it, then i would think your chances are very slim. i'm sure it has a good backlink profile due to the time you have put into it, so i think it is safe to say whoever bought it knows what they are doing, unfortunately. sorry to hear that, though :/
