I've never written a diary, always thought that M15 might use it against me one day.
But I have this year. My only new year goal is to put something in it everyday that is positive. (Nothing negative at all).
My mum's been writing a diary since she was 7 years old, she's now 86. The early ones are more like cave drawings than actually written words.
I looked in the notes at the back of dairy at her goals.. she had one.

1) Buy a 2024 diary and write something in it, on the 1st of January. ( she gets one free every Christmas from the Royal College of Nursing for 50 years of service)

She's achieved this goal and copied and pasted it into her new goals for 2024.

Those 79 diary's that line the top shelf of the bookcase I made during my apprenticeship 42 years ago. Contain the good, bad, ups and down, failures and achievements of a life well lived.
The down side is , she can recount all my failures with pin point precision.. :)
Anyway maybe its a good thing to get into the habit of doing.

Happy New Year and Good Luck Everyone :)

Definitely a good habit to grow.

Happy New Year!

As nice as it sounds, it's actually better to do this digitally. If you're paranoid, you can encrypt it, but the ability to search your diary will be immense down the road.

I use period calendar (since, like 2009) and had physical dream diary for couple years but stopped writing my dreams down when I realized it's not improving my dream recall for lucid dreaming. But writing down whole day? Idk.

Wtf.

I remember writing down my dreams in a dream journal.

Was crazy into lucid dreaming in my teens to the point where'd I'd be like MUM I NEED CHEESE IT INCREASES DREAM RECALL DUE TO TRYPTOPHAN CONTENT.

Happy new year tho lovelies.

Have I been misunderstanding your unusual substances this whole time... This whole time the man is referencing cheeses.

Banging out keys of cheese with the booooys!

I once heard those who write diary shouldn't do it. I forgot the reason But it was a movie dialogue and it had a good reason.

I've started doing this since November last year. Made me realised how scattered I can be and how bad I am at hitting goals.

I am perpetually in fear of getting a diary or setting goals and long term goals, I fear if I do not reach them it will unmotivate me and I will lose all hope.

I do not know how to fix this. I am driven every day by a strong burning fire, without writing goals, but I wish I could write them and trust in them.

I can relate to that. There have been times when I've experienced a similar situation. Whenever I sit down to write in my notebook and try to concentrate on my goals, I often find myself getting distracted or feeling unmotivated. It can be frustrating, and it eventually led me to stop using a diary altogether.
