Business Directory Backlinks: are they good?

Some are ok. Some directories are actually used (shock horror) by people searching for a service. Yeah it's rare but it does happen.
If the directory is categorised and your niche is one of them
If it's been around a few years and isn't banned
If it's got a decent authority/trust rating.
Then yes - half a dozen links from sites like that should be fine depending on how many other links you have to your site.
I will add though. In my churn and burn moments I've hit directory sites hard sometimes and when I've done that in the last 5 years or so I've either got no result - or (rarely) a poor result.
A few in the mix of a legit link profile would be fine though.
