Hey! Bit of background, I’m a senior full stack developer (10+ yrs) mostly cloud based business systems. I got my start as a programmer building websites back in the day and honestly SEO bored me and I didn’t care for it. Fast forward to 3 months ago and a guy from our website department started working with a new SEO agency. Within 2 weeks one of our clients climbed to #1 in the map pack from #15 and have had to double their staff. Something ridiculous like 950% increase in calls from gmb listing. I had NEVER seen this kind of result as any agency we’d worked with did basic on site + shitty backlinks.

I’m interested now. I searched yt/google for information and just got the same bs on page whitehat shit. Went a bit deeper on reddit and finally found this forum. God I wish I found this place back in the day lol. I have always been a bit of a hobbyist hacker/tinkerer and this feels a lot more interesting then the marketing side of SEO I never enjoyed.

I haven’t talked directly to the agency but believe they’re running a bot sending signals to the gmb listing from different ips mimicking different geo locations. So I think as a side project I’m going to play around making some tooling. From what I’ve found I already have 90% of the skills from other work (eg. browser automation, web/network protocols, ML/NN).

First thing I plan on building is a bot to mimic organic user google searches/interactions with a test site I have. Eg. sending signals to google that users are searching keywords, scrolling through, entering other pages then coming back, then landing on the test site. Tooling I plan to use is:

Proxy list + script - Fresh IPs
Playwright - Automate browser
Fingerprint generator/injector Playwright library
Pyautogui with a humanizer library (potentially build a NN to get better curves)
NN to create unique user paths.

I have some questions though, is this enough to bypass bot detection or is it overkill? Also will a heap of signals from browsers with no logged in user/users with little history get flagged? Are there easier/cheaper way to swap IP using satellite connection? Would love to hear any suggestions from not technical backgrounds too! What would your dream bot be able to do?

And of course I’ll make whatever I end up building open source on GitHub for you all to use.
