Hi. My wife and I created a Meetup group around Sex-positivity in SanDiego.

Do you guys have any tricks or ideas to build a Meetup community from scratch?
Any services are welcome to.

I don't get the point. You already built one right?

@flashsites

You can consider these tips as you build a Meetup community. Think of yourself more like a leader than an event organizer. Lead people to attain a shared vision. Another is to make members think that other people surrounding them are not strangers to fear. Lastly, give everyone the chance to share their story, wherein their individual stories can become the story of "we."

Try building up a Facebook group; start with friends and ask them to invite others. Be active in the group, provide as much value as possible. Try to find other related Facebook groups around your niche and contact the admin. Be active in that group and ask for permission to market yours. After your Facebook group grows, make a detailed post about your meetup group and pin it in the group. So, any new person joins will know the meetup.

FB groups should be a good place to gather people of similar interest. Howmany people are currently interested?

Hi all, I have a somewhat relevant question, what's a good way to monetize a meetup community? I have a group of 3k people, focused on popular programming topic. Occasionally I get requests from conference organizers to promote their events (~100$ one-time fee), but that's all. Any cool ways to monetize it further? Thanks!

ps. Flashsites, if that's not relevant here, let me know and I'll remove my message. tnx

Currently at about 600 members. :) Mostly Meetup has been responsible for our growth.
I'll try what you guys suggested.
thx

I would go for sponsorships.
Also (if its active) charge a $1/month member dues. You'll hopefully get $1.5k base
