Google won't buy twitter because Jack Dorsey the owner will not sell it. Twitter it's his life, since he was little he dreamed of twitter, now his dream come true. Facebook already offered half a billion or so and the offer was turned down. Anyway these guys are smart and won't sell twitter to google or anybody else.

Honestly though, Twitter doesn't have a great cash flow and after YouTube Google and their investors will not want to drop $1b on a company as non-profitable as Twitter.
What Google wants most is the real time data and to wedge their crummy Adsense in front of people, taking the whole platform is a hassle. A partnership is think is the most likely outcome.

Google buys major traffic sites not major profitable sites, they will find a way to make lots of money from twitter you can be sure about this. Google employees are TOP programmers.

Twitter isn't a massive traffic site like YouTube was, Twitter is outside the Alexa top 50. As comparison Google Mexico, Adult Friendfinder, Pornhub and Youporn are all ranked higher.
If it was simply traffic, Wordpress or several other sites would be more viable. Google wants the data, the real time buzz keywords pushed around Twitter more than anything.
Twitter could sell to Google. It makes sense for G because they could slap adsense all over the place.
I'm not sure it would lead to account creation restrictions any savvy blackhat couldn't work around. I create gmail accounts all the time without issue.

Of course Google makes money off youtube. Haven't you noticed all the ads all over the place?
The last presidential debates were on youtube...
New movie's, tv shows, video games, etc all pay huge cash to get an adspot on youtube.
That's just the beginning.

I'm suprised they haven't bought them already. But twitter itself is already adding all kinds of limitations. I think it's the natural progression of web 2.0 sites.

Ditto to this, I own the friend adder and account creator and they both work so well, never had an issue.
Agreed -- purchase LivelyBrowser products and you can ramp up with Twitter quickly.

Spot on target. Imagine if we could *listen* in on the thoughts of millions of consumer and then show them an advertisement targeted to their thoughts?
Exactly -- gold/platinum/diamond mine.
If Twitter is smart enough to use their information to create a truly "behavioral targeting" system then imagine the revenue they can generate.
And they most likely smart enough to figure that out- and other things.

I never said that they made their money back.
I just answered the question; they do make money from Youtube. That was the question.
