Branded EMDs for MNS - is it really safe?

I'm not sure if this is the correct section, I figure its white hat, but MOD please move this if you feel it belongs elsewhere.

I've read all different things in relation to registering EMDs with brand names. For example, Samsung48tv dot com, samsungtvreview dot com, buyuggboots dot com etc etc.

I have read stories where the company with the brand in question have taken action against trademark infringement, but I've also seen many micro niches sites which seem to be unaffected it all.

I'm wondering whether the latter is because these MNS are informative, or because they are in fact helping selling their products via amazon and so on, that the companies don't bother or care. It is in fact helping their bottom line and free advertising.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure they will take action if the site was to create the brand in a bad light, or if they were actively promoting competitor's products instead.

Your thoughts on this?

It can be a number of reasons, it just depends how the company looks at it.
Some just don't care.
Some simply don't want anyone using their trademark no matter what.
Some see it as revenue generating so they don't care.
I have one niche which includes about 10 different companies, and only one company sent C&D for a few domains.
I have a nice one right now that is making me about $2500 per month and I outrank the company for the product. I'm worried they'll send a C&D.

I would be concerned too if the site was making a monthly $2500. But I guess you could persuade them to allow the website, as if you are raking in that much it must be helping their bottom line too.

I guess it's a case of reading up on their policy's. I wonder what the worse case scenario would be. I mean if you just take the site down will that be the end of it, or could they press further?
