Hi there, my first post is here :)

Bought a domain few weeks ago from godaddy. I didn't backorder the domain, i just went to godaddy searched for a domain name based on my target keywords and found a good one.

Now, after a week or so, I open my webmaster tools (where i setup all the basic stuff like sitemap target and so on) and I see this message:
manual.png

It seems like the previous owner did some spamming on this domain.

The nature of the site is a blog and I intend to work on it based on the results of my researches.

I haven't posted any content yet, but submitted a re-evaluation request to google. They sad they will be back in a while or something like that.

In the next few days I plan to post couple of articles (quality ones, no spam BS).

Checked the backlinks taht point to my site (I thought there were none) and they seem pretty messy, if I could I would delete them all, but I don't have access towards these posts.

Would be really grateful if somebody steered me in the right direction and shared their or their clients similar situation and the end result of it.

Also, I plan to buy domains in the future as well, maybe even look for expiring domains and stuff, so how can I check in the future if a website is "unhealthy".

One more thing ... If, and how, i disavow all of these links, will that be of any good at this stage?

Thanks
Alek

PS
It's my first post, so if this needs to go in another thread that's fine.
Also, if I talk rubbish in some part of the post, I'm not a SEO expert, I just started out figuring it and how it works.

Should've done your research on the domain. Well, now try and see if you can disavow the spammy links and see if you can put fresh and good content up there. Update me on this OP.

Disavowed all the domains, submitted the txt file to WMT, sent a reconsideration mail to them as well, will see ... Should've ... I agree :) but what's done is done, trying to fix it now.

Maybe it will turn out to be a good blog post at the end, how I brought my domain back from the dead, searching for a silver lining here ...

Since it is under review you can get it fixed up quickly.
Add your new original content then request a review as shown on GWT message to you.
They just want to know the domain is now in good hands and not auto genreated gibbersh

I would think it would be easy to put new content up and submit a reconsideration request. Show Google you have cleaned house.

I would scrap it, I mean the website already has a manual action, and I think it will be under scrutiny for a while. From my point of view, since you already was ready to start with a fresh domain, I would cut my losses and buy a new one, this time I wouldn't go with a EMD, that's my 2 cents.

Thanks for sharing your opinion guys,

Decided to stick with the domain. Reasons?
- Not a moneymaker site, rather a type of a portfolio of my work and my opinions on certain subjects and i like this domain name.
- Haven't plan to grow influence through SE, more focused on social media and communities.
- Want to see what one needs to do in order to get his domain back on google, for future situations of this type.

Will provide an update as soon as I submit it for review again.

ugh... this doesn't have a link penalty so all the advice for link disavow isn't going to fix it.

You have a pure spam penalty. This is not the same as a link penalty. File a reconsideration request through GWT and tell them that you are the new owner. The penalty will be lifted.

Now, the downside is that it does not fix any Penguin issues. If the guy indeed spammed, you could be starting a domain with Penguin issues.
