Hi All,

I host an auto-responder and I'm getting lots of bogus sign-ups from proxy traffic. Although I know that totally stopping proxy traffic is impossible, I wish to take a pro-active stance on this issue and identify the sign-ups coming from proxy traffic and then block the IP address.

Question: What is it called when you get so many bogus sign-ups that you have trouble separating the real sign-ups from the fake ones?

Question: Is there a way to be at least 95% sure that a given IP address is in fact coming from a proxy server? I'm asking because I went to a few reverse DNS look-ups and tested my home IP address and the result said that my IP address was a source of spam

So, not being an expert at identifying proxy traffic, just taking the word of these reverse DNS look-up services would be playing with fire. However, this flood of bogus sign-ups has the very real possibility of greatly hurting my business.

How do I arrive at a reasonable method of stopping this proxy traffic sign-up attack, without "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" ?

Your help on this matter would be most appreciated and I thank you.
