Bodybuilders' Thread

"As for warning against carbs at night, there's nothing inherently fattening about night-time carbs unless they contribute to a chronic surplus of calories that isn't used for building lean tissue. The ONLY reason cutting carbs out of the evening works for controlling fat gain in some folks is because it restricts total caloric intake for the day. "No carbs at night" is nothing more than a calorie-cutting-for-dummies tactic. Can it work? Yes, it can. In the case of people who tend to overeat carbo-liscious foods at night, this can serve as a default solution, but it's not a guideline that should be universally recommended. What works just as well is cutting back on an equivalent amount of calories earlier in the day. There are no night-time insulin fairies ready & waiting to store carbs in the fat tissue — at least not at any greater rate than they would do so during the day. [...]"

I am not sure if this is the case for everyone, as my body is defiantly different from yours and so is yours comparing to someone else. But everyone I've met so far had great success with cutting carbs at night: both during cutting phase - and also while on a clean bulking phase.

It is necessary to bring protein shake with you to the gym, and have it as soon as possible, have you heard of the window of oppurtinuty?

This is just one source, out of many many sources that recommend this.

Sadly that bullshit was created by supplement companies. "Window of opportunity" is a false myth unless you're shooting insulin (and no one does that except pro BBers)

As the research said, the success you got from cutting carbs at night is because you either reduced your total caloric intake or increased it. Carbs/No carbs at night doesn't change anything as your body is working 24/7 wether if you're sleeping or not.

What do you guys think of getting cut first then bulking up later?

Here is another tip,

If you are willing to lose some fat and shape up for summer, go for Lipo 6.

I would never recommend a fat burner to anyone, just saying. You can easily achieve the same results if you just stick to your diet and exercise at least 3 times a week.

Someone posted before, just stick with your whey protein and multivitamins.

I am a Professional body builder i use IM to pay for my Food lol 8 meals a day is $$$

All I can see is OP talking about very vague nutrional information. Post workout you should be eating a REAL steak, chicken/turkey breast and not drink milk & powder. You grow from REAL food...Not powdered milk.

And you watched too much Rocky? Rocky didn't die from Salmonella. A lot of people have. Want a better advice if you insist on eating it raw? Get pasteurized egg whites (in cartons or buckets) or put the egg in boiling water to kill the bacteria that's usually found on the egg shells.

Well, Rocky is a movie, and I wouldn't rely on anything you've seen on tv or in a movie is fully factional. You probably shouldn't drink raw egg like that because you can die from salmonella. It is a real possibility, though much slimmer than what most people think.

I read about the details before drinking my first and hopefully last egg. ;) It was like swallowing a lump of snot, but all-in-all wasn't a truly bad experience. I would do it again if I thought it was beneficial.

If you are a child or older, such as senior citizen, your immune system is less able to fight off salmonella, but if you young and in good health you should have no problem. With this being said, the bacteria is far more likely to be maintaining existence on the outside shell of the egg than the innards. Lesson: wash the outside of the egg before you crack it. You can buy 100% egg whites in a carton at any grocery store. I imagine it would be a bit safer. ;)

Well trust me my friend, you have it all wrong. Insulin spike happens after you consume simple carbs post workout. Here we are talking about consuming a protein shake for post workout :)

Lets look at it this way, we all know that carbs are the main source of energy, if you eat them at night and go to sleep, are you going to use that energy? NO. thats why it will be stored as fat.

If you think you have too much fat then yes. Lose that extra weight, then aim for a clean bulking phase.

Where's muscleteen?

I'm here :)

As much as I appreciate everyone's effort to contribute in this thread, I'm sad to see that there is a LOT of misinformation going on here.

Misinformation is false or inaccurate information that is spread unintentionally. It is distinguished from disinformation by motive in that misinformation is simply erroneous, while disinformation, in contrast, is intended to mislead.

Anyway, I'll try to make a post when I have some free time if you guys (and girls) are interested.

I don't have any fancy degree or anything. I'm just a former part-time fitness model and a medical student (in 2nd year only).

Right.. this is the last thing I ever wanted: muscleteen accusing me of publishing "misinformation"

You think carbs turn into fat overnight?

Come on bro, fat is an accumulation of carbs turned into fat over TIME. If you have carbs at night it doesn't effect you as long as your working out during the day.

I'm doing a medical degree. Trust me.

Everyone will respond differently to certain workouts and diets , It took me a long time to have found what workout my body responds well to.
I have 6 meals a day (2hours - 2:30hours apart from each other)
I do most of my lifting modays, wednesday's and fridays.

tuesdays , thursday's I do cardio

saterday and sunday I rest ,eat alot and try to sleep late in the mornings.

after 6 - 7 weeks of training I would take 1 week of to rest then plan my new workout routine,(always change routines ,youre body gets used to you're workouts - new routine's will help break platua's and show better results.

I mix creatine with fruit juice 30 minutes before a workout session and some USN whey protein after my workout.

other than that I try to keep it natural my current bodyfats at 4.5 % an me weighing in at around 104kg (not sure in pounds tho)
