Bodybuilders' Thread

Everyone's body is different, I know people who went crazy with roids and haven't had a single side effect (no hair loss, no gyno, nothing but nice gains) but I also know a person who used the took some dbol pills (simple crap) and ended up with a bad case of gyno that costed him $3k to get rid of (and is not fully gone).

I would NEVER take PHs.
For other chemicals like test, deca, well you have a lot of stuff to research before going for it.

I have heard mixed reviews of PH, I know p-mag is weak but a friend had fairly good gains on it. I know others who hammer SD Matrix none stop and get awesome gains. I also see other people in my gym why gyno, if they didn't do the cycle correct or not I don't know.

Thoughts an anavar?

Nice post but I'd like to point out that whole eggs are much better then egg whites

Better tasting not better nutrition.

Eating 10 egg whites a day is good. Eating 10 full eggs a day is not for the heart.

If you wanna make it taste good:
3 egg whites (raw) + 1 scoop whey protein + 1 cup skimmed milk + small banana + 1 cup of oats
blend, drink :)

Here is another tip,

If you are willing to lose some fat and shape up for summer, go for Lipo 6.

All I can see is OP talking about very vague nutrional information. Post workout you should be eating a REAL steak, chicken/turkey breast and not drink milk & powder. You grow from REAL food...Not powdered milk.

And you watched too much Rocky? Rocky didn't die from Salmonella. A lot of people have. Want a better advice if you insist on eating it raw? Get pasteurized egg whites (in cartons or buckets) or put the egg in boiling water to kill the bacteria that's usually found on the egg shells.

I got to agree with you there. Unless you are a a super pro competitor forget all that supplement stuff.
Eat and work out. Eat the whole bloody egg!

Nice advice, i just bought Zyzz Bodybuilding bible lol. Tells me everything i need to know about working out.

I been working out for the last 2 months I see results but they are minimal. I think my problem is I work extremely hard at the gym, but don't eat enough calories outside gym.

I can testify that you have to EAT!!! EAT EAT EAT, I use to be a supplement freak till one day I meet a body builder who told me to just eat everything in sight, by that I mean, chicken, eggs, potatoes, veggies etc etc. I ate 8 times a day, eggs an chicken for 2 months straight, had my routine down from mon-fri in the gym and I have gained more size by just eating than I ever did using supplements.

Another thing which is very important, REST/SLEEP, no need to go to the gym everyday, I work 1 or 2 body parts mon, wed & fri, you'll be surprised how fast you'll grow by doing just that.

Don't get caught up in all the hype with all these supplements like I did, it's just to get your hard earned money, don't get me wrong supplements do help but knowing I can achieve the same results by just eating, I rather eat strict and have a proper workout regiment.

He died from a heart attack in a sauna at an early age (in his 20s)...You wonder how he got his body?

Here's a few clue: Test, Deca, D-Bol, Tren, T3, Clen etc.

Here's one you should have picked up...Arnie's encyclopedia. Or just read on the net how you pump, how you train HARD and how to maximize the way of breaking down muscle tissue during workout.

Personally I think there are 4 ways to success:

1) The obvious - Go to the gym and work out. HARD. If your looking to gain mass then you need to increase the weights your lifting over the quickest period of time possible for you. I say if you can do 8 reps on a particular weight/exercise you NEED to push higher to get bigger.

2) EAT. Most people fail because they think if they go to the gym they will automatically become big. This is not the case. In fact I'd say going to the gym is the easiest part. Getting sufficient amount of proteins and carbs is the hard thing, and also pretty expensive. The main point you need to consider here is protein, forget the nonsense that people say about having a protein shake before workout and one after. In essence our muscles need a CONSTANT supply of protein, branch chained amino acids etc for them to grow. When you work out you are essentially ripping your muscle fibres to pieces. These fibres and then repaired and made stronger but you need the right amount of protein CONSISTENTLY throughout the day for this to occur. It takes between 24-72 hours for a muscle to repair itself for another workout so you need to ensure your getting a good amount of protein in your system continually each and every day. Another myth is the 1g/1lb this might sound good in theory but scientifically its not really based on much - the reason is because our body can only UTILISE "x" amount of protein per day, the rest will undergo deamination and excretion. Research has shown the amount to be roughly 150g/protein/day, so if your taking in 200g+ its rather pointless and wasteful. Protein shakes would be the only supplements on my list, heck I don't even like to call them supplements more like meal replacements, as most of you will know eating A LOT is hard and expensive, so instead I try to get 4 meals in a day and 2 shakes in to bring my total up to 6 meals a day to see the gains I want. Shakes are an easier and more convenient method of obtaining protein and should not be the ONLY source of protein. You should try and get most of your daily intake of protein through lean meats/nuts etc.

3) Sleep. You need this for your muscles be able to repair themselves. Anything from 7-9 hours sleep is good. It will keep your body with sufficient amount of rest in order to see the gains you want and deserve :)

4) Water. This is something people overlook but if you think about it over 55-60% of our body is made up of water and it drives most reactions within our body. It would be crazy if we didn't get the right amount of water we need. Usually I take a litre bottle with me to the gym and finish that by the time I'm done with my workout. I tend to have another 2 litres of water throughout the day which brings my total water intake for the day to 3L.

I hope this information helped you guys :)

I was reading somwhere that the body needs at least 30ml per 1kg of body mass a day,and more if you are doing alot of activity. Don't know if its bullshit or not.

There is no reason to take any vitamins or supplements if you just eat a good balanced diet. IMO there a complete waste of money

Wow... I see a lot of people from BHW work out. :D

Sorry OP but there are a lot of broscience in your post. Check out Alan Aragon, he's like the mythbuster of bodybuilding.

What is the best meal for morning?
You don't need to eat right when you wake up nor is it necessary. Check out Intermittent fasting (www.leangains.com best site for this method)which is where you fast for 16 hours and you eat your caloric need within the 8 hours time.

The food you recommended tho is good!

What is the best meal after workout?
No need for a shake right after. It won't change anything and you won't gain muscle quicker. What's really important at the end of the day is to meet your macronutrients need which are Protein/Carb/Fat.

Here's a good thread for calculating your daily Caloric and Macros limit http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=121703981

What is the best meal pre-bed?
Casein/Whey/etc. are just a marketing strategy. Yes Casein takes a bit longer to digest but again, this won't change anything at all regarding your body composition and your health. You can even eat Carbs right before you go to sleep and you'll be fine. What I like to do is check what's missing to meet my daily macros limit and I prepare a meal for it. It can range from Ice cream + cereals to Cottage cheese with strawberry jam, etc.

Which supplement brands I should go for?
You don't even need supplements but if you want some only buy Whey protein, Vitamins and Creatine. The rest are mostly all bullsh*t and the supplements companies are just looking to get more money from you.

Save your money and spend it on real food instead. You'll feel better, look better and have a bigger wallet :P

The Sad Truth:
Don't aim for a certain type of body because in the end you'll be disappointed 98% of time. Most "naturals" fitness models/bodybuilders take steroids, diuretic, etc. Add good genetics and you have these guy you see all the time in advertisings.

Of course some of them don't but usually they are the kind of guy at 15yo they were already shredded and jacked.

Nice advice, i just bought Zyzz Bodybuilding bible lol. Tells me everything i need to know about working out.

You wasted your money unfortunately lol. You could get all the info for free on the internet. Zyzz looked this way because he was on big dosage of steroids.

Have you heard of BV? it stands for biological value
it refers to the amount of protein that is absorbed and utilized by the body from the consumed protein meal.

Whey protein's value is almost 100. Can you see how important it is to have whey protein (hydrolyzed protein has a faster absorbtion) post workout? and it is easier to have a protein shake instead of cooking and preparing food.

Learn how to talk and discuss and ask questions appropriately, don't be so naive and attack those who are trying to help uneducated people like you.

I really haven't seen anyone following or recommending this approach. It is highly recommended to have a good nutritional meal in the morning.

That is your point of view, but I still recommend post workout shake.

Carbs pre bed? ahhh come on.. please do some research on this and see why only having protein and fat is recommended pre bed.

I guess I mentioned this earlier? I said that I'd only recommend Protein, creatine and amino acids (but it is already found in most protein powders). Mult-vitamins are good too.

Thanks ;)

I don't know where you hang out but I know plenty of bodybuilders and fitness people that use this approach because it's easier to manage and make them feel better.

My bad! I probably misread.

http://www.alanaragonblog.com/2010/06/15/why-nutritional-dogma-dies-hard/

A nutritionist did and personally stated that:

"As for warning against carbs at night, there?s nothing inherently fattening about night-time carbs unless they contribute to a chronic surplus of calories that isn?t used for building lean tissue. The ONLY reason cutting carbs out of the evening works for controlling fat gain in some folks is because it restricts total caloric intake for the day. ?No carbs at night? is nothing more than a calorie-cutting-for-dummies tactic. Can it work? Yes, it can. In the case of people who tend to overeat carbo-liscious foods at night, this can serve as a default solution, but it?s not a guideline that should be universally recommended. What works just as well is cutting back on an equivalent amount of calories earlier in the day. There are no night-time insulin fairies ready & waiting to store carbs in the fat tissue ? at least not at any greater rate than they would do so during the day. [...]"

That is your point of view, but I still recommend post workout shake.

It's good, yes, but definitely not necessary and you certainly don't need to bring your shake at the gym and chug it down right after your workout for a supposed "increase muscle building effect" lol.

Like Alan Aragon proves, at the end of the day it's all about your caloric and macronutrients intake.

^ Your last point is totally correct.

Your body continually builds muscle and needs a constant supply of protein and other essential molecules, having a post work-out shake won't enhance this process. You just have to make sure your daily amount is sufficient for you to make the gains you want.

It is necessary to bring protein shake with you to the gym, and have it as soon as possible, have you heard of the window of oppurtinuty?

There is a short window of opportunity post exercise, in which glycogen replenishment and protein synthesis is optimized. If you wait to long to consume
your post workout shake, this window of opportunity will be gone.
