For NEWS portal wordpress will be best , Lots of Free & premium themes avail which will give you desired results after some small customization.

Why do newbies fell the need to add pointless polls lol!
Anyway look at WordPress.org, there are plenty of news themes on there. It's better as you have a lot more control

If you are really serious about blogging then you can go with WordPress but if you want to give it a try first I will recommend you to go with BlogSpot as it is free.

Blogger for starters but if you know a thing or two in web dev use wordpress.

Yeah, but you have to pay for hosting in WordPress.
If you are talking about free Wordpress.com account then blogger is much better than wordpress.

Obviously we are talking about free wordpress.com because blogspot is not a independent CMS
