Probably a basic question, but when trying to rank a page on WP. Does it matter whether the content is on a blog post or a stand alone page? Is one better than the other?

Page works better than post, but if you are good at seo then its doesn't really matter.

A web page is a single HTML document that exists at a unique URL. A WordPress page is WordPress's version of a static page.
A post is dated and time-sensitive and a page is not.
A post can belong to categories, tags, dates and authors and a page can not.
You can access a post from multiple pages - its category, tag, date or author.
A page is only accessible from where ever you link to it.

I thin webpage works better because in Wordpress post you will link post to different categories, Tags, archives. This will make small pages in search engines which is good for indexing but not good for SEO. Your site speed will lower and small pages bring high bounce rate as well. In this way thumbs up to Webpage.

I wondered about this when I 1st started with WP and did a lot of googling. @digimarket is correct but from my experience, it does not matter in terms of rankings. Make sure you have decent content, decent links and good on page SEO for either a post or page and it will do well.
Install something like Yoast and do not index tags, archives etc to remove thin content from the site.

I think pages have worked better for me in ranking than posts. Posts become outdated whereas a site with good silo structure will have pages ranked.

I agree with them. I think a page works better than a post. Posts are dated and time sensitive so page will rank better a post in the long run.

Both blog post and stand-alone page have value because it is your own individual domain, hosting and content. A webpage is static, single HTML page. Many companies use webpage instead of a blog post and The blog post is your opinion written in your own words.

Pages and posts both have their own value but stand alone page works better because of google indexing. It's easy for google to index a page for something relevant topic over than a post and there are few more things where you should choose pages over your WP posts for good ranking

Pages work better as posts tend to have duplicate content issues.

Does not matter. It is all about how you have your WP site set up.
You should have all same optimization opportunities depending on the plugins you'll be using.
Google doesn't know the difference between post or page unless it is classified differently in the metadata. So you'll have to be navigating schema, rich snippets like Date, author, star rating, etc etc depending on which format you go with (disabling or enabling them depending on your goals).
Keep in mind your post will probably turn up in your categories pages if you have your blog set up for them.

I feel it depends on the type of website.
If your website is business oriented then both blog post and stand alone page are mandate to rank your website or to make good business.
But if its only a blog you can concentrate on blog post.
