Blog network site...old layout??

Is it preferred to recreate the old layout and links for a blog network page?
Does it matter?

I don't always reconstruct the PR domains I'm getting, sometimes I'm just redirecting all the 404 URLs to the homepage. Later, I make sure there's a 'sticky' link to the posts for my sites, and the link juice always flows from the homepage to the posts I need to power up.
