I just had a quick look at your blog. There are a few things that I would do to improve it.
1) Whilst your theme is simple it could really use a little more colour as it looks very empty, perhaps more pictures during your posts.
2) Are you hoping to monetise this blog? How?
3) I don't know what methods you are using to make money outside of the blog. Seeing as your blog is documenting your adventure it would be a good idea to outline the methods you are using so people can follow your progress.
4) And finally and most importantly.... Content is king, and no offence but your blog posts so far aren't good content. A posts length isn't the most important thing but your posts are so short that very little info is shared. I also think you need to check your grammar and spelling to make sure words are spelt properly, "though" rather than "tho" etc. At the moment your posts read like you are a teenager chatting to your friend on instant messenger.
I don't want to appear too harsh, its good that you have taken action. However you should have a look at competitions blogs. Look at the writing styles, the layout, the theme, the message they are trying to get across in each post. Then look back at your blog and I'm sure you will spot areas that you can easily improve.
For your site to be successful you need it to be at the very least equally as good as the competition.
