Don't you need to sync all the blocks when you install the software? I'm not sure but that's what happened to me when I installed bitcoin core for the first time. Electrum has its own server for that so i didn't need to.. May be, I missed something.
bitcoin core no need sync to spend but for receive and get exact amount in transcation history you need completely synced

In wallets your coins or cryptos are not in the companies sever but in your device in your protection like you are the bank.
While in exchange it is in their sever holding it for you and protecting it for you. That's why hackers target them one little mistake and booooom, the hackers takes Every pin in the sever.

Right, I get that yeah. I just thought blockchain was an exchanger, because it offers you these buy/sell/exchange options and stuff. Okay, I stand corrected then, good to know.

They just allow few crypto (3 or so) swap while exchange allow hundreds if not thousands

That's what I am talking about. This is why electrum is easier to get started on, for the crypto noobs like me. I don't own $10000 in crypto, so security isn't a problem for me.

What do you mean private key?
I have a security/backup phrase on Bitpay.
But for my Blockchain account I have my username and password for the site, and my wallet identifier. Is there anything else I should get from the site and write down/save locally?
private key is used to backup wallet.people can stole your btc if they had your private key. thats why im always trust offline wallet than web wallet

download the App blockchain on Android write down your mnemonic phrase and secure it you are pretty much secured now unless you have 1000 btc every hacker on earth wants to steal .

For new blockchain wallet is best.
I am using since 3 years.
Also coinbase you can try.
Kraken is used to store large quantities.
Other offline ledger are also good for large.

Well, no I don't have 1000 btc. I have maybe 997, give or take
The mnemonic phase is I guess those 12 random words. That's what I got from Bitpay. It's 12 random words, and if I lose them I'm fucked, but they keep my stuff secure because nobody can access my stuff without those 12 words.
Okay but I don't actually have to download the app for Android. I mean, it's not going to give me any extra layer of security or anything like that right?
