Bitcoin - Be Careful Out There

Okay great, now explain to me how a single government could stop people buying a bitcoin?

You know, like they've stopped the sale of drugs online? prescription drugs from india? Or child porn? All that would happen is: a country where it is still legal would sell you coins OR darknet marketplaces to buy them.

I find it highly unlike, and very very hard to police. that's why they haven't bothered doing it.

If a government really wants to put you down, it will put you down. Simply outlaw btc and create a dedicated competent government structure to police the ban and watch what happens. The price will skyrocket for a while, but the volume traded/mined will plummet and people will be reluctant to use it, facing real, harsh punishment.

No one thought Black Friday for poker will happen, but it did happen in a snap of the fingers. Poker is never the same ever since.

Exactly! If you do not take history seriously you are doomed to repeat it. Online poker is a great example. Even better than my original Google Adsense scenario.

I just deleted some posts in this thread... feel free to be vocal with your point of views in a vehement way but please stop the insulting as it takes away from the subject at hand.

I myself do not trust the bitcoins. Too many pitfalls and the government does not recognize. Half-legal earnings.

You mean like the war on drugs? What an incredible success that has been!

Looks like a new FUD wave is incoming. Wish i had some BTC to short. Might buy some just to short.

"If the government" - right, but only in that country. You do realise there is more than one government, so volumes of trade won't completely plummet.

Harsh punishments? For using an outlawed currency? I doubt it. Unless you are in NK, but then again, they love btc.

And you do realise we are dealing with a form of currency? It is different to online poker. When judges in the U.K. discussed bitcoin and if it was outlawed the outlined a few issues.

First being, if you outlaw the currencies one by one, there will always be a replacement to them. Similar to the issues countries have with synthetic drugs like MKAT (and the replicas of it)

Secondly, cryptocurrency can be compared to genuine payment systems such as Paypal. When you digitally move currency on paypal, it was ruled similar to cryptocurrency, even though it was an entirely different currency. There was also issues related to prepaid giftcards, lets say you have a £20 Amazon gift card. Outlawing crypto could affect these forms of intangible products.

Especially if a crpytocurrency uses something like the $ as its value. Say someone starts a crypto, makes it identical to a cryptocurrency, but labels instead as a 20$ coin, rather that 1 btc.

I'll try to find this report when I am home tomorrow.

Yes, an incredible success it is indeed. Just ask the Chinese. They don't have a single drug dealer (alive) there, can you guess why that is? That's right, because the government said a firm "no".

Op is right,. Some people made 100k+ in less than a year starting with only 2k. This kind of hype isn't going to last forever. It's time to run. BTW has no value once people stop miming it. Everything requires the continued support of miners. Once people stop miming, it's done.

I feel like it's almost over. All it took was the Chinese bam to drop the price by almost half. Now imagine if the US does something. . . BTW could fall back down to 1k. Take your 4.3k per btc and run. . . Wait until the governmentsecond finish being nazi, then buy during the mega dip.

Lol you're saying people don't do drugs in a third world country with the largest population? What are you on?

What are you talking about? China has a huge drug problem and it's growing every day...

And I was referring to the USA, which also said a firm "no" in the 70s when Nixon declared a war on drugs. Since then nothing of what you said would happen to Bitcoin has happened to drugs. More people want them. The price has gone up and stayed up and the government has completely failed in its objective to stop people using them. Check any source for drug related deaths from overdoses and you will see the chart is unfortunately only rising at very high rates.

Governments banning things never really works. If there's a desire or need for something, people find a way to get it. Simple as that

This is what I can't get my head around when I hear people shouting and screaming about Bitcoin being the future.

Are they too simple to see that if America pulls the plug, that's pretty much it. And why wouldn't they pull the plug, considering it is used hugely in illegal activities.

Lol. People don't really want bitcoin though. The largest holdings are by investors. Crypto really isn't being used as cash daily by the general population. Once the investors can't make money, you'll see a drastic dump in volume and price. One thing that can save crypto is if regular people actually use it as cash rather than a form of casino
