Bitch Slapped by Google?

Thanks guys this has been very helpful.
Got pimp slapped by the bitch. 2/27/12. Went from position # 3 to #46 overnight. My site has been bouncing from 46 to 32 and back up to 46.
And I do believe it has to do with spammy links.
If this is true we can kill the competition.

Google knows that they can't penalize websites for spammy links. They're just trying to make us think that they do. The key to this update is to use link pyramids, avoid blog networks and diversify anchor text. This update is a good thing, because those of us who improve our techniques can outrank those who keep doing the same old stuff.

Panda 3.3 has been a big pain in the ass...live and learn...we will overcome!

Over the past three days, my site has lost its rankings on the 147 keywords that I track for the site. The rankings are not completely lost, but almost all my keywords were first page ranked and now very few if any are on the first page and the important ones are on the 4th or 5th page. Suck!

No, the site has not been deindexed b/c I have checked by using site:myurl...

I wouldn't worry if I was just seeing this on a few of my keywords as I am used to seeing specific keywords that I am targeting on a campaign to bounce around and then they usually come back stronger. But to see all the keywords to get bounced down so rapidly makes me believe google bitch slapped me!

All the content on my site is original content, but I use heavily spun content on other sites that link to my site and I think one of my competitors might have submitted a spam report to google.

What type of backlinking have I done to my site?

Just about every service here on BHW found in the "Services for Sale" section and I have used SEnukeX, private blog networks, bought high pr network home page backlinks, anything and everything...

I just have never seen my site get so many of its rankings decrease over such a short period of time.

I have google webmaster tools set up and I do not have any messages from Google.

I am hoping to see some bounce back and I have given the advice to many others to just wait b/c usually the rankings come back by themselves, but I just have never experienced such a huge number of my keywords lose their rank in such a short amount of time.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated?

Thanks!

Don't wait for it to come back up - sell it asap

In my exp, you should stop your spam link building (such like comment, profile) and build some links from High PR site's homepage, High PR blog's content page, then don't do over works in on-site SEO, such like title, url, meta. Keeping every page has enough words, your rank will be back.

Can't sell the domain, its not adsense or affiliate in nature...i sell my own program from this site and the domain is worthless without the program and everything it has to offer...and the domain name is my brand and i have built a brand over the last 5+ years, so i can't just abandon the brand name...

i can afford to sit out the penalty and rebuild from there and my sales are still pretty good so its not as big of a crisis as i would of thought...

now, don't get me wrong, this penalty does hurt, but its not the end of the world...i have the capital to withstand this penalty and i will come back stronger than ever...i just don't know when the penalty will fall off...hopefully sooner than later, but that is anyone's guess to make...

didn't do spam link building to begin with...

i had high pr home page backlinks and i think this is what got me trouble...or at least one of the reasons, of many possible others...

my rank will not be back until the penalty google has given me has worn off as i received a message into my google webmaster tools account...it is very clear to me that i received a -50 penalty...

Quick update...

About 5 days ago my site jumped from being stuck in the 50's to increasing to the 20th position...it bounced around between 20 and 30 and now has settled into the 25th position...

I didn't want to say anything right away as I wanted to see if it was something that was going to stick in that position or drop off again and it still may drop off again, hoping it won't.

So this is something positive, although for my niche you don't get any traffic in this position, but its better than being in the 50's...

So for the past 4 weeks I have really focused on diversifying my anchor text, using naked urls, click here anchors, etc...I have increased my social signals on twitter, facebook, and google+...not entirely sure what worked or didn't work, but my SERPs appear a little better...

Time will tell as to where the SERPs take me, but at least something positive has happened.

Same here.

Two things are most importat: Authority & Naturally

It's like the more power you have, the bigger your balls are to compete with the other site's.

Please keep us updated, especially if you rebound.

It sounds like your IP diversity if good, in fact likely TOO good.

Take a good hard look at the sites that have been ranking for
some time in Google for your keywords. Analyze their backlinks.

Focus on those that haven't artificially built links. If you run into
them, skip them for now. Begin copying the "style" of links from
those sites that haven't done any artificial link building.

What's the best tool to analyze links of our competition for a relative newcomer?

I did the same thing and my sites are back in the game too. So I think this strategy works.

Hey guys,

Any news?

I got another slap on all my penalized sites yesterday, situation got even worse, lost another 3-6 positions.

I was doing no SEO after first penalty, therefore this one should be caused by February algo update.

How are you performing ?

I think there is no rhyme or reason as to what google is doing at this point. My site dropped from like 250 to past 450 back at the end of Feb and 2 weeks later it came back and now its at like 140 and I haven't done anything - ceased all seo efforts. Go figure. I'm getting ready to start my seo camps back up so we'll see what happens.

my friends got this problem to, google said "unnatural backlinks" :(

Hey just read this whole thread. Any update on your website? My site is 16 days in the dance/sandbox and its only occassionally getting some longtail traffic..

After reading this I'm wondering if my new site (three weeks old) got slapped, too. It happened over the weekend. My site was moving up (according to Rank Checker) and was at 111 then it dropped and now it's not even listed in the top 200. My guess is it happened when I had 2500 backlinks sent to my money site on Saturday.

This is my first website, ever, and it's a bit discouraging to see this happen. Up until Saturday I was building web 2.0 sites manually and pointing them to my money site. Now that I think about it, I should have sent the 2500 backlinks to the web 2.0 sites. D'oh!!!!!!! Stupid noob!!!!

Forgot to mention that for a couple of my long tail keywords I'm still ranking so I'm not sure what is happening. For example, the keywords "get [product name] review" is at 43 on Google while the keywords "buy [product name]" is at 181. My initial keywords were "[product name] reviews" and it reached 111 before it started to tumble. So have I been slapped or do I simply need to get back to building web 2.0 sites and backlinking slowly? When I go to Google and type in my site name it appears in the number one position.

Ok, just read about this thing called the "honeymoon effect" on Google where new sites are ranked and then they suddenly drop off. Wondering if that's what happened to my site and not the slap. Any thoughts? Thanks
