He doesn't deserve anything but neither do they. If they want the domain they need to pay him what he requestsBinance may end up winning. But I'm rooting for the guy to win and retain ownership or get paid what he deserves.

This is a .ca domain. If he is not a Canadian resident (he states he is in the U.S.), and he is not a Canadian citizen (appears unlikely, as even a Canadian felon should be allowed into Canada), then he probably did not meet the requirements to own a .ca domain.
I have not done a .ca reg recently, but my recollection is that you need to positively indicate that you meet the terms and conditions of a .ca registrant. If he indicated yes to this, but this is not true, then that makes a strong case that he falsified registration details.
If evidence of this is presented to CIRA, the domain authority, and the registration will likely be rescinded.
His safest route was to accept the initial offer. Any digging into the details was never going to end well.
