they send a type of packet that confuses the machine because the packet is "lying" about it's contents. Usually most datacenters have protection and filtering against these type of attacks, and then again a handful don't.By the way, do you know about low bandwith http dos attacks? I once took down an apache server running on a machine with amazing specs and 2x100mbit connection, just by running such an attack from a crappy machine with 2mbit connection.
