best way to get clients for a full-stack dev?

hi people. a family member of mine is a full-stack dev and he has a hard time getting new contracts. his skills are great, has a cs degree, and like 5 years of professional experience. he does currently have a contract with one company, and they give him about 10-20 hours every 1-2 weeks.

if i could bring him clients, he would pay me a monthly % of his revenue as commission. what would be some of the best ways to bring him clients? and overall, how do you guys suggest going about this?

if i could help a family member start making $10k+ every month and have a side hustle for myself, that would be pretty awesome.

He's obviously got socials and a website set up for himself then, right? And targeting an area of development that he enjoys?

I've been seeing people opening up a "cheat sheet" on a second monitor and walking people through some well sought-after code and getting the few thousand views... A couple of those video on the topic of his own interests should draw in people looking for similar.

From there it's making friends and being nice, I believe

he keeps his linkedin updated, but his facebook is private and he isnt on twitter or instagram. he does have his own website, and he specializes in wordpress sites. his previous career was graphic design, holds a degree in that as well, so his mind understands the front-end stuff pretty well.

im not a dev myself. from what i understand, cheat sheets are a way for a dev to save time by copying code someone else already wrote? and do you mean hosting the videos on youtube for other devs? i dont 100% understand tbh

but he is very sociable, pretty thoughtful and respectful.

Jokes, jokes... No real need to have FB, Twitter and Insta public for this kind of thing.

Ask him to look at how say Web Dev Simplified often upload short enough but very informative videos on how to do separate parts of a web development journey.
He could really benefit off of doing the same with WordPress; would give great content to share through-out his LinkedIn and the recognition he'd get from those videos drawing in people that want to learn the trade but aren't gonna go anywhere could turn into potential clients.

Sounds like he could benefit from frequenting BHW tbh.

he does it all, and well i think he specializes in wordpress, but he has a degree from a nice uni so he knows quite a lot of languages. he just appreciates the front-end stuff, and wordpress is so vastly popular nowadays.

youtube tuts would definitely be great for his recognition, but a lot of his experience is working on stuff for medical offices, law firms, and other types of business so it would kinda make more sense to target the industries he has a big portfolio for. one area he has done quite a lot of work for is plastic surgery offices. he has the portfolio to back up his skills, just needs more leads i guess.

Yes but when I say myself a full stack developer I present custom made work not web design
But anyway to get clients for him word of mouth and freelance platforma are my main sources for clients right now for web and app development
 
He can look for gigs on sites like bhw, upwork.com, and freelancer.com
 
Does he has previous works he has done? If he has (and have plenty of them for that matter), then he can showcase them on different freelancing platform, forums, etc and he will have enough work and be making money for himself.

  • Developing a WordPress website for your dental clinic
  • Creating a booking system for your dental clinics website
  • Crafting an informative blog for your dental clinic and its products, services and industry knowledge
  • Implementing a contact form for your dental clinic's website
  • Reasons to develop a FAQ for your dental clinic's website
See, the idea is that even if he has experience developing for the medical niche, he could just as easily draw in similar clients by suiting these videos to plastic surgeons, physiotherapists, and so on.

I can 100% see why you're questioning why the fuck everything's on dental clinics and the fact that he'd have to mix and match the same content each time with a separate niche; but wouldn't a quick article draw that same traffic?

As a programmer he'd completely understand making use of reusable code, digital marketing seems to be extremely similar in that aspect.

yeah i was def already thinking to completely target the specific micro niche, getting results, then building a whole new site etc. for the next micro niche, all under that same exact macro niche. specifically focusing on plastic surgeons, then once we're getting results there, build a new site that focuses on dentists. repeat that on and on, but all within the medical niche.

reusable code and multiple landing pages are a beautiful thing for sure.

the other idea was within the fishkeeping industry, build a custom highly functioning template and inventory management software. branding, seo, and other services could also be provided. then cold email, visit events, and the alike. most fish stores don't have very high budgets, but the competition would be pretty nonexistent.

if he could get everyone on the same plan pretty much, and getting paid a recurring fee, it could work very nicely scaled up. one template and one software could be servicing 50+ fish stores, and he only has to maintain those 2 things. less work for him means a cheaper price for lower budget low competition industry.

the bonus is fishkeeping is a passion of his, so that can give a slight edge too because he understands the industry pretty well.

but why does he have to develop new landing pages, websites and so forth when he can do one well and publicly display on it; "interested in a website like this for your niche? Give us a bell!"

It'd save him 100x the workload! I see what you mean by talking about the reusable code I mentioned, but why would he reuse when he can effectively reference and display :)

That'd be twice as beautiful, although maybe you're right thinking different; if we're talking using the same website template and structure to suit another client and then do the same, I'm talking about by mentioning your friend could develop something similar for a separate client again then it's two birds with one stone situation.

I'd love to chat about this further, I can see exactly what you mean about the fishery sector just my mind's a bit blown from forty other topics playing on it concurrently :confused:

and true, a showcase is definitely in the plans. another thing that businesses love to see is case studies, so that will be another thing. businesses love seeing what sort of results other businesses achieved by implementing your service.
