None of the software available on the market is perfect. All you can get is a basic idea about the top 10 competitors. Then you need to decide yourself. I prefer to use Long Tail Pro and AHREFS.

I have limited experience with Semrush.
But you should never trust a keyword tool fully. Only use it as a broad indicator before you start the manual research of the keyword.
Because there are a lot of factors and things that these tools miss or dont take in consideration when calculating the result. So its necessery to do manual research also.
However, I think Ahrefs has a good tool. Its highly useful for me

KWfinder and ahrefs. But be careful, with the recent Moz link update, the overall scores are somewhat higher than they used to be. For example, a Youtube video with 3k views can now have even 60 PA, which is just insane. In reality, that video is not really strong, but because of the update, it'll make the KW difficulty score higher. Don't just rely on that.

Let's be fair - no serious person in SEO uses DA/PA.

If you need a quick estimate of how strong a particular domain/site appears, the PA/DA can be useful. (when you process hundreds of sites every day it sure saves you some time) But it's certainly not reliable.

Spot on. It can help filter from a huge list, but you can take a DA40 and it have pretty much 0 traffic and a rubbish DR. The backlnik profile can be terrible. Whereas a DR40 and the chances are much much higher that the site is genuinely strong.
DA can be good to remove the weak domains - but it doesn't mean it's going to be a strong one.

I could say kwfinder will be fine, it will show the keyword competition score, top competitors of that keyword and also keyword suggestions. It has 5 free searches daily, try it out if it's fine for you then buy it. Also, check with google keyword planner and Ahrefs.

I remember seeing the formula that KWFinder uses a bit back. Whilst I don't remember what it was exactly, I do remember thinking it was a bit "meh" with how it decides on the difficulty. Ahrefs has the second largest index on the Internet, behind Google - so I'm sure they'll have more of an idea.
