I think the entire TLD/domain extensions are now just the same imo - previously exact match .com domains would yield supernatural ranking ability for that exact match keyword, but after G has updated their algorithm, EMDs are now pretty powerless and it behaves just like any other domain extensions out there.
But still, I am not seeing many of those fancy domain extensions being ranked - yes there are possibly 1 out of 50, but it's just simply too little and majority that are listed are primarily .coms, .net, etc.
But if you are looking for an EMD that can rank very well for local search results, then go for a local TLD extension instead.
